Someone else will have to comment on that because I don't know the generic dish size for Digital+ in the Canaries.

for 19e they install 1m dishs.smaller dishs are used for 30w

Astra 2D don't have EIRP of 54dBW.

I can't remember, but did the accidental footprint release occur before the 28.2E detour was announced?

That make no sense as it shows a spot beam over the UK.

When 1N is at 19.2E it won't point at the UK.

BY THE LAW OF SPAIN - any channels with a NATIONAL licence MUST cover ´´´the peninsular´´ NEVER CALLED THE MAINLAND IN SPAIN AND ´´the canary islands ´´ as there both areas are classed as INTERNAL parts of the same kingdom...there is a very important point,as no part of the kingdom can be treated as second tier
this is so the catalan republicians ,who are in power ,cannot say that the kingdom is not equal
people in england do not know that there are no spanish police in barcalona, and spanish is no longer the main lang. in schools

LICENCES ARE ISSUED AS national,Province,local...

There is no need to shout.

Kingofsat shows the main Spanish beam at 19.2 as Astra 1KR which is a wide beam that does not cover the Canary Islands.

As I've asked before, why would Spain go from wide beams to a spot beam?

Id say a lot of the early enthusiast predictions have come true, even if thy have been based "on a few photos and a couple of press releases and footprint maps that were subsequently altered" as you so eloquently put it.

If its in the press release then that info is as good as it gets without access to a source inside the operation as far as Im concerned.

I do have inside information from an ex-colleague and Engineer who now works for Astrium in Portsmouth.

I did post about this in response to one of your post some time ago.

I guess my post was lost in all the noisy speculation.

I would pay more attention to Astrium and an Engineer who works there than press release from SES write by sales and marketing types.

should have gone to SPECSAVERS - your own 1KR SES footprint shows a SPECIAL BUBBLE over the islands. ???? so dont understand what you are saying there.....and who has said anyone at 19e is changing to spotbeams??

One very good reason could be because they are running out of space at 19.2E, so frequency reuse will enable other areas to use the same frequencies. The doomed 1K had a beam for Spain and another for Eastern Europe.

And if we share that out by say, 10 countries that use 19.2, that'll be 31 new channels each. What about if they want some more HD channels? 7 each or so?

Quite a bit of the soon to be vacant ex analogue capacity on 19E is already accounted for - new HD services for Germany.

Don't forget the use of 'new' satellite locations. It started with 28E for the UK and Ireland, followed by 23E for Benelux (The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg), Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bulgaria. 5E for Scandinavia, Romania and the Ukraine and so on. In the past 19E was used for almost all those countries together with the German, Spanish and French channels.

We know 1KR has spot beam capability when they used it for Poland for a while. And now 1N has another spot, it seems to me like there are plans to do something. I wouldn't be surprised if there will be incentives for broadcasters to use the spots at 19.2E, since SES can sell twice as much bandwidth at opposite ends of Europe.

What other birds at 28.xºE can you get. On Gran Canaria a 1.35m dish will only pick up the South Beams and EB1 Fixed but I do know that the other two islands of Las Palmas have a different experience - please share.

Finally back in Sunny Italy after 7 months working abroad, couldn't wait to try out the new frequencies!
In Lazio, 1.25m dish:
10964 H 22000 5/6 : Signal! 52% quality! VU+ says SNR 52%, AGC 99%, Ber 0.
11127 V 22000 2/3 : Signal! 43-44% quality! VU+ says SNR 44%, AGC 99%, Ber 0

It's great to be back!

regards,
D.

Been trying for 2 days to wake it up!! No joy yet!
Bit out of touch with the whole sat scene, had no free time on my hands lately. Will see if there's any news on the TivùSat front asap.
I was worried about 1N but these results are great!
