Good job there Timo, I like it! It does fit very well, in fact it's neater than 2D's, even chops Iceland off too which enjoys 2D reception. We'll have to see now whether more Txp's are migrated over to 2C from 1KR as this will prove whether there's any truth in all of this. Cheers too AS for that 19.2E info.

I blame Doron Shimoni on Facebook if this all turns out to be true as he's the one who's been blagging on their wall how well 1N comes in abroad!! :D

It's actually a bit scary how well it fits...

Where did you find this spotbeam?

"SatBeams - Satellites" and "Satkurier" shows a different spotbeam Polen Astra 1Kr, or am I wrong?

I made it. :D

I just took the Polish spot, kept the same proportions, and moved it over the UK. It's just to show how it could look if it was moved over the UK.

:-lmao Maybe I should have made that disclaimer on the picture a bit clearer. I did wonder if it would appear somewhere else as "fact"...

I hadn't noticed that until you just mentioned it and had to go back and check!

SES Astra company was up to a change in location for some of its satellites. Thus, Astra 1KR, now located at 19.2 º E, will be located in January at 28'2 ° E, which would explain the satellite change in recent days by Canal +.

On the other hand, the newly 1N would go to its final location, 19.2 ° E in February 2012. Currently in 28'2 º E.

In May 2012 Astra 2C would go to 31.5 ° E, implying a further shift to Canal + satellite, possibly transferred to Astra 1N.

there are lots of changes to DIGITAL PLUS SPAIN on ASTRA and HISPASAT 1E...maybe ses want to reduce the dish size in the islands from a 1m dish,it5 is very big for a DTH service these days

Interesting. I think you need to twist it anticlockwise more. Poland is 21ºE and 1KR is at 19.2E (almost due south) and the elevation is over 30º. If you move that satellite to 28E and point it at the UK the elevation is much lower (maybe 23º for central UK) elongating the NE/SW footprint and turning the flat at the bottom of the footprint towards SE France or north Italy.

How about this version?

Anyone know how much control SES have over these spots?

What do you mean? The beam shaping is fixed by the aerial design (i.e. before launch). The only thing the operator can change is where the beam is directed.

Why would they do this complicated swap?

Afaik was the timeline:

Astra 2C 31,5 -> 19,2
Astra 1N launch -> 28,2
----Speculation below---
Astra 1KR 19,2 -> 28,2 (after KR's transponder relocated to 2C)
Astra 1N 28,2 -> 19,2 (after 1N's transponders relocated to 1KR)
Astra 2C 19,2 -> back to 31,5 where it came from (WTF?)

Easier way would had been:
Astra 1N launch -> 19,2°
Astra 1KR 19,2 -> 28,2 (after transponders relocated to 1N)
leave 2C @ 31,5

Why would SES choose to play "chess in the sky" with their billion dollar satellites?

I was thinking how much they can shift the spots, like when 2C went to 31.5E there appeared east and west beams spaced quite far apart compared to when it was at 28.2E.

People are speculating it is because 1N's spot is too wide. Personally, I can't see why it would matter as 1N is only going to be used at 28.2E for a year or so and surely they would have known when they where planning 1N's mission what the spot would be like.

MAJOR shift of channels from 1KR to 2C on 16/11

I was only thinking last night about what Huevos mentioned about the 'skew' on the spot. This now looks even better, would make you think that spotbeam was made for the UK!!
