what freeuqncy use bbc hd now ?

It's still using 10847 V 23000 8/9.

On another forum someone asked to look at the BBC HD signal because 1N might be in wider use already. Today I checked the signal quality of this frequency and it has gone up to almost 100% (I think it used to be about 80% here - all other 2D frequencies are about 80% -). So I wonder whether SES has transferred this frequency to the 1N? Maybe it's just a coincidence.

There are indeed some mistakes in the Google translation, this is how I would translate it (I'm a native Dutch speaker):

ASTRA 2C satellite operational on the ASTRA1-position

The Luxembourg satellite operator SES has put the ASTRA 2C satellite into use at the ASTRA 1 position (19.2 degrees East) this week. The ASTRA 2C satellite became redundant at the ASTRA 2 position (28.2 degrees East) because of the temporary location of the new satellite the ASTRA 1N.

On its new location some transponders of the ASTRA 1KR satellite moved to the ASTRA 2C satellite. These are the transponders with vertical polarization transmitting on the following frequencies: 10.729 GHz, 10.979 GHz, 11.038 GHz, 11.097 GHz and 11.127 GHz. All these frequencies are used by the Spanish TV provider Digital+.

With the relocation of some transponders of the ASTRA 1KR satellite to the ASTRA 2C satellite (launched in 2001) operator SES wants to save the ASTRA 1KR satellite's energy. Currently 27 of the available 32 Ku-band transponders are in use on the ASTRA 1KR satellite. Disabling the five transponders has nothing to do with technical problems. Already before the launch of the ASTRA 1KR satellite SES decided to shut down some transponders after about 1/3 of its expected lifespan in order to to ensure commercial operation throughout the expected lifetime of the satellite. This satellite was launched in 2006.

The ITV 1N Transponder is now listed correctly in NIT:

Network Name: ASTRA
Network ID: 32 (0x0020)
Transport Stream ID: 2063 (0x080f)
Original Network ID: 2 (0x0002) Version: 14
Descriptor: Network Name Descriptor
DVB-S Orbital Position: 28.2E
Frequency: 11.053 GHz
Modulation: QPSK, DVB-S
Polarity: Horizontal
Symbol Rate: 22000 MSps
FEC: 5/6
Current Network: True

So I think BSkyB will be remapping the EPG sytem quite soon.

The new channel is using a reduced resolution:

Elementary Stream PID 2311 (0x0907) MPEG-2 Video
MPEG Video: Bitrate 10.000 Mbps Resolution 544 x 576i
MPEG Video: Framerate 25 fps Aspect Ratio 16:9 Chroma Format 4:2:0
Descriptor: Video Stream Descriptor
Multiple frame rate flag: False
Frame rate: 25

I have just checked this on both my Vu+ and SkyHD box and it is still at 60% for me as opposed to 80% for the known channels on 1N

looking at footprints ASTRA 2C then a BIGGER dish is needed to get DIGTAL PLUS SPAIN off astra in the islands,,,i def losing the plot here,i must have gone for pop corn sometine since this thread started :confused
I noticed that too. The spec is a 1.2m dish for Tenerife but the standard size in the Canaries is 80 cm. Has anyone heard any reports of Digital+ subscribers having problems? We might find out if we get any rain this year.

Although 19.2ºE is not of a great deal of interest to me normally, this is interesting for the following reason. There has been speculation that SES will close TPs on 2A, 2B and 2D to prolong their life - moving them to 1N. This sets a clear precedent and proves that SES are likely to do this.

Does it mean 1KR will stay where it's now?

I very much doubt it was ever going to move. All this speculation is the result of Chinese Whispers arising from one user posting on on a Spanish forum.

Technically its possible, but unless / until there is an official statement from SES I think we can assume 1KR is staying where it is.

AS I think someone on the DS forums has asked this question direct to SES but no answer as yet.

Another thing, Astra 1N spent a long time testing at 1.8E. If there were a problem with the spot beam size surely it would have been found at that stage and 1N could have been sent directly to 19.2E to release 1KR rather than this aerial dance.

they normally install a 1m dish for tenerife, but i think they use HISPASAT as default, and that uses a 60cm

Good question. The only time that spot beam has ever been used there was just one transponder on it, so without inside information it is not clear how many transponders can access that aerial system.

When you sign up for Canal + they ask what satellite you are going to use and supply the correct size.

I tend to agree with you...it would have been more logical to send 1KR to 28.2 straight off after 1N was in situ at 19.2 rather than risk moving large pieces of expensive hardware around in space. But the fundamental problem with 1KR I think is its lack of power compared to 1N. They have already shut down several TPs on 1KR so that it keeps going to the end of its life ....

What this talk and the fake map above may show us however is that a 1KR type spotbeam could be conceived for the UK and then us ex pats are into some new challenges. Thank god I have a back garden with 1,600 square meters. I could put something much bigger there if needed....:)

Ive got just the dish for you. Only one available, good price to you. Sale to be concluded with a couple of envelopes stuffed with used 50s :D

The lnb might be a bit of a problem , but Vipersan can probably knock a feedhorn up given a couple of weeks notice :D
