Did a search and what we are taking pictures of is called glint.
Lots of papers on the subject on the net like "A SURVEY OF GEOSYNCHRONOUS
SATELLITE GLINTS" by the U.S. Naval Observatory.
Way above my head but the variation of the reflected light is perfectly normal and
depends on both the shape of each satellite and also if and how it rotates.
Now I can go back to my nightshift at The Swedish Navel Observatory.
