when it gets near 28.2 east it will be worth again to look after the beacon etc. to confirm the correct location. Then we know exactly when it is there.

Llew is keeping track of it for us alongside a couple of other members so once it's there we'll pretty much know. Current estimates put it at about midday on the 31st.

It would be very interesting to have some pictures of the 28.2E satellite cluster before and after 2E arrives to position.
This would allow to discriminate the relative position of 2E in order to help align "big" dishes in the fringe areas...

the relative position changes every other day. What help would a picture be ? Use the TLE data and sites instead. You can also use SES COB data

Astra 2E in the 36E slot now.

Screendump shows centre marker at beacon's 12493H (L-Band 1893 - my LNB's LO is out by 400kHz). Lock is on 36B's 12521H.

She's moving at about 0.85W/day, possibly a tad quicker.

Yes. Well optimised. I see the transponders with a spectrum analyser. But not enough to get a lock.
Regarding the motorisation... Like any any other prime focus dish. With a polar mount and an actuator...

Same down here. Even VDL's 4m communal doesn't get a lock. Not 'my' dish so can't try a speccy. It will be interesting to if 2E is as cruel, which I suspect it will be.

Thanks guys for this info. I've been wondering for the past year if a 2.30m famaval dish would do the job in my location let alone the 3.10m with the extra wings to make it work. Unbelievable how dramatically the 2F signal drops within a couple of hundred of kms south !!!

Thanks guys for this info. I've been wondering for the past year if a 2.30m famaval dish would do the job in my location let alone the 3.10m with the extra wings to make it work. Unbelievable how dramatically the 2F signal drops within a couple of hundred of kms south !!!

Where I am (Tortosa, Catalunya) we are right on 'fringe land' - a 1.9M dish is ok in Tortosa for 2F. Forget 100Km!
About 30K north (El Perello) then 1.9 is ok on some transponders but not all. In Mora La Nova (about 40K north on a slightly different track) a 1.9M gets nothing. I'm looking forward to some fun and games in a months time!
