so do you think it not true that its at 28.5 now or that its doing something there untill it drops into 28.2
and might this account for ppl saying there getting something 0.5 away from 28.2 ??

´´I cant see it on my 1.8m fixed, but can on the 1.5m motorized about 0.5º west of the slot.´´
You should ask yourself why there's nothing to see other than the normal transmissions within the spot beam area

No idea whether it's true or not as of right now (Depends upon the quality and timeliness of the reports submitted by people like us to Flysat etc.) ....................

.................... Just pointing out that its final destination is 28.2E, so not to worry about where it might (or might not) be at the moment.

ie For you Fringe chaps, the only reports that actually bear weight are those from the Bird when she is on station and operational. Anything else is fluff (or Noise,as BlindFaith might say!).

Hi Guys,

I have been following flysat for a long time.
Most of the datas are not updated or wrong.
So I believe that 2f is on its orbit.

My guess is that the change over will happen this coming weekend.

I agree about the timing of the changeover.

We're just killing time right now!

I didn't say anything about 28.5E so I don't know why you are quoting me as your proof. BTW 28.5E is East of 28.2E, not West.

Moderation Note:

As (Inevitably) the Thread has morphed into another speculation and chat debate, I think that once the first clear and unambiguous report from an Operational 2F is Posted, we'll create another Thread - It will be easier than trying to Moderate and/or Prune this one to separate fact from fiction!

Shiny new Thread - Temporarily Locked

http://www.satellite...l-reports-only/

PS: I've added an "Astra 2F" Tag to each current relevant Thread so you can navigate easily between them (Have a dekko near the bottom of the Page and you'll see a nifty list of relevant links).

No, it's at 28E. That TLE still has it moving west about 0.7º a day. Tonight's TLE should sort it out and show the correct position.

..despite the exact actual position of 2F, 10964H is still coming from 1N. My S/N readings are exactly the same as 3 days ago -> 19,7dB
Both satellites can't be active simultaneously at the same frequency on a similar beam.

@solly's report >"i got uk beam very strong 7 c/n 10961h" must be referring to 1N or the switch-over to 2F has alread taken place and nobody noticed

How do they switch?
They have tested at 43deg so can they just switch the transponder off on an older Sat and switch a new one (with the same frequencies) on the new Sat.
Or do you all expect new frequenecies and a series of test TV transmissions?

SES’ ASTRA 2F SATELLITE STARTS OPERATIONS

21.11.2012
Luxembourg – November 21, 2012 – SES S.A. (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG) announced today that the ASTRA 2F satellite has successfully completed its in-orbit testing and is now fully operational and in commercial service at the orbital neighborhood of 28.2/28.5 degrees East. The 52nd SES satellite was successfully launched board an Ariane 5 rocket from Kourou, French Guiana, on September 28, 2012.
ASTRA 2F was built by Astrium in Toulouse using a Eurostar E3000 platform. The multi-mission satellite carries Ku-band and Ka-band payloads for the delivery of high-performance Direct-to-Home (DTH) and next generation broadband services in Europe and Africa. Of the spacecraft's payload, 48 Ku-band transponders cover Europe and 12 Ku-band transponders are dedicated to sub-Saharan Africa, while 3 Ka-band transponders will allow SES Broadband Services to support download speeds of up to 20 Mbps.
ASTRA 2F is part of a larger fleet replacement and expansion programme at the 28.2/28.5 degrees East neighborhood, consisting of ASTRA 2E, 2F and 2G, that provides replacement and growth capacity for the UK and Ireland as well as for other services in and outside of Europe. ASTRA 2E and ASTRA 2G, also under construction with Astrium, are scheduled for launch in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

Good find - Can anyone bear this out with real data?

I'd hate to think SES-Astra's PR Dept. have jumped the gun!

No, just 28.2E

The 28.5E business with Eutelsat hasn't been resolved yet, as far as I know.

i know its a guess , but why do you think that ...

Astra 1N started full commercial service Mon 24th Oct 2011 @ 28.2 east

Looks like Astra 2F has already started #75 we will now know within the next 24 hrs what the footprint actually is.
