Well you have obviously never been a "Tester" (no offence) . There is a fundamental principal that if you change anything then you have to test everything again. I am not suggesting they will actually do that, but they will certainly not assume all is well immediately after the satellite has travelled all that way.

You are right - I've never been a satellite tester - and no offence taken - but I have been a systems tester. If you change anything you do have to test everything again but in this case, the last thing that changes is the position of the sat and so any testing from that stage is actually "live" as it will be receivable by anyone looking at that popsition. So it is very easy to do a live test by swapping services to transponders on the new sat and if there is a problem then swapping back again. Once in position they can't do a full sat transponder test with all frequencies without affecting current services!

Argh, I see. The 19 and 28 are the slots. In the original post you left out the "E" which made them look like dates.

The order is logical but the time schedule isn't even announced yet. I also thought about dates in stead of the slots ;)

let's also not forget that 1N is still at 28°E... if something really does go wrong with 2F, they can still switch the transponders back over to 1N... so together with all the testing they have already done on 2F, it's kind of double failsafe.

Once 2F is at 28 degrees, you really have to be ready for the switchover to happen any day without notice.

And that's just the point - 1N won't move until 2F is fully operational - just in case. With testing already completed and once in position there is no real reason why the swap won't happen very fast - and assuming it all works once done 1N can move on. For 2F there is no point in having the bird up there fully able but not working - it has to pay for itself ASAP as does 1N which needs to move ASAP.

2D doesn't have the capacity for what is already on 1N.

THE CURRENT TRAFFIC ON 1N (20trans) s backed up
by the current offical backup 2D (and 2A/2:cool:
when 2F arrives at 28E then it still will be backed up by those until 2C arrives .the point being they can move 1N in a couple of days
