Trying to install my 145MHz dipole antenna for the ISS SSTV when the wind chill was below zero yesterday afternoon wasnt much fun. And its still not right but lack of light forced me inside before 6.

This morning shows promise as a lovely day, so I shall be outside sorting lnbs out :)

I have the joy of jetwashing vegitation and debris from an elderly neighbour's driveway this afternoon, not looking forward to it at all.

Its been snowing down around Stafford this morning....

Here its absolutely beautiful if you get out of the wind. ISS dipole working really well once a loose connection was fixed.

I might get get a bit more than that, it's a large driveway.

Got about halfway when the light faded and by then my feet were somewhat cold and wet.

Returning Monday to finish off.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Went to the local Odean complex last night to watch a film that SWMBO wanted to see (and paid for!) - had to come out after about 90 mins because that particular "Screen" was cold (because temp was only around 16-17C and yet the aircon was blowing in COLD air and there were only about 20-30 people in a theatre that will hold several hundred) when we went in and by the time I came out my body core temp was dropping and I was shivering (and stayed that way for a couple of hours). Refused to go back in, and asked for, & got, SWMBO's money back (although it still cost me over a tenner for drinks & popcorn).

Got home around 9pm to discover that the alarm system appeared to have gone off and alerted keyholder neighbours - one of whom had come in and switched the alarm siren off. After a telecon with the alarm company, it appears to have been a front door sensor - but that's a magnetic contact that should only (AFAIK) operate when the door is actually opened (which we don't think it was) and so I hoping that it's just an "end-of-life" sensor failure (its 10 years old).

What an AWFUL evening:(

Went up into the Cleveland Hills tramping today. Chilly, but truly fabulous autumnal vista.

And a nice selection of fromage butties.

Just received this from somebody near the 'epicentre'.

Whilst it might be a collage of multiple storms, Terracina is going to require a large clean up over the next few days.

That's nothing! What an over-reaction.

Imagine something really serious, like the wrong kind of leaves on railway lines. Proper British SNAFU!

We're on our way back to the UK and went across the centre

I'm pleased we drove back from Spain last weekend, though our route may have been too far west to be affected by that. No snow here by the way, though I lit the Rayburn the day after we got back.

We're on our way back to the UK and went across the centre. We couldn't believe how thick the snow was. I've taken the card out of the dashcam to download onto my laptop while we're having breakfast at the hotel so hope to post some photos later.
A screenshot taken on the N7 between Lyon and Roanne (about 5km east of Tarare) heading up towards the col. The roads were well cleared by the time we travelled over them but the impact of the snow can be seen at the sides.

We were pretty lucky in a way. Normally we would traverse the centre using the N102 and N88 heading towards Clermont Ferrand but, because of the terrific rain that lasted all day on the Monday, I was unable to pack the car and had to do everything on Tuesday morning. This made us some two hours later than normal and so I was forced to pay for the autoroute up to Lyon in order to make up some time. The report talked of parts of the N88 being closed so who knows what problems we might have encountered.

One beneficial effect was that the roads were noticeably quieter than normal and we were actually able to make some very decent progress.
