Well despite the heavy snow Ive been out to give the 13E dish a bit of attention. As usual it had rotated vertically so a quick yank on the lnb arm got things fixed. I'll have to replace that dish at some point - the bolts are done up as tight as I can get them but it still slips in every gale.

The weather might have been diablolical up here this week but the Scottish sense of humour has not been dented

And a rather topical joke:

Scotland is a great place to live - we have more pandas than tory mp's

...On the subject of Global warming ...
The last in the series of the very excellent Frozen Planet ...was a bit of an eye opener ..
I'm a burger for facts ...and I absorbed the coment re the frozen poles..
If the Arctic cap melted away ...Global sea levels would rise an estimated 1 mtre ..
If the same thing happened at the Antarctic ...sea levels would rise globaly by an estimated 65 mtrs ...
Now thats a scary fact ...
Gulp..

Here we go again

_http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/features/16126512

No idea of what's likely in the north, but they already confirm some 65mph winds down south tonight, and lots of rain.

Storm force 10 and 11 in many western coastal areas later this afternoon

It was just such a storm as the one heading our way ..that blew my Alcoa down last winter ..
Shes better braced than last year of course ..but that doesn't stop the wind warping her ..
Now parked at 1West and as elevated as the jack will allow ..and there she will remain for the next few days ...
The TD88 ..being on a North West exposed corner ..has been pointed to 70East ...back into the coming wind ...and likewise it will not move again for a few days ..
My biggest problem lies with the much exposed & high up TD110,,,which I've just pointed to 58 West ....more or less face on into the onslaught ..the 'tough it out position' ....also makes it possible to lassoo the lnb assembly with a nylon rope ...and drag the loose end into the bathroom through the window ..and trap it down with a stick tied on to prevent the rope sliding ..
Again ..this is how it will remain unmoved until the storm passes ..
I'm seriously thinking of designing a V shaped brace clamping around the lnb arm and bolted to the wall either side of the dish ..next year ..that can be put into place every storm warning .
Certainly worth the effort ..as this situation is likely to worsten each year for the forseeable...
And to be honest ..after last years dishaster ...It has me depressed in a mighty big way ..
Good luck everyone ..

Well VS, your old TD110 arm is sitting proud and out of harms way owing to 50kg of sand bags
bearing down on the mounting slab.

If that goes, we're doomed I tell ye, doomed.

It is now officially "totally shitty" here ..................... howling gales and torrential rain. Not too cold, fortunately.

It's so bad I'm a little concerned for SWMBO who has ventured out to her Photographic Society and will have to cope with nasty conditions coming back, having gone out when it was calm.

HOWLING.

4 days of yellow warnings, comprised of heavy rain, snow & gales. Bloody ell. Its not the shortest day yet and Im fed up of the winter already.

On my little weather station the pressure is reading 975.4mb & still dropping. Whilst I would never say its met office accurate its a reasonable trend indicator.

This is the first real test of my dish as I have raised it up another 10ft and its coach bolted to the timber frame of the gable end. Pointed it to 28e so the wind should come side on around midnight. Neighbours a bit worried it may come down onto his new conservatory. Oh deary me......

Very windy here and I did turn the motorised dish side on (though I have a feeling the winds changed direction since then). Hopefully there'll be no rogue trampolines blowing past during the night.........though a farmer's recently moved some cattle into a field nearby......."Oh my God....cow!.....it's a cow!!......oh my God!!!....cow!!!!".....where did I put that video camera???

Looks like Wales will be having some proper snow next two days, doesn't seem likely right now though its hammering down with rain.

Met Office has issued a yellow alert for snow over 100 meters and we're about 3 times that. :-ohcrap

Rainy and windy here in North Somerset but both dishes are still upright. I guess it helps being surrounded by fences and buildings...

Been picking up here over the past hour, a loose gutter on the neighbours house is doing its best to drop into our garden.

Worst time is going to be 2 - 4am, so I'l have a couple more glasses of Bordeaux to shut out the noise.

And the next troublemaker is about three days away, with plenty of isobars and lots of water.
