my box (and old pace one, don't know the exact model) has been going into standby mode automatically for a couple of weeks now, every day and every night without fail.

this is of course extremely annoying in case i want to timer record somit. any idea what might be causing it; could there be a problem with the box? never had any problems with the box before.

should also mention i live in a fringe reception area (finland) if that's of any relevance.

There is a known bug in the stream downloaded to boxes that are causing s/by issues. $ky are aware of it.
The software is for auto standby feature previously only available on Sky+/HD stbs.

Auto standby has been enabled on all boxes for all times of day. You should be able to turn it off in the main menu somewhere.

It makes no difference to the energy consumption on standard boxes if you disable it as only the video and audio circuits are disabled in standby, everything else is still active.

If the box is stuck on red light and refuses to come out of standby then it is most probably PSU failure..
I repaired quite a few boxes like that recently.

My own Thomson HD box went into standby last weekend....switched it back on and five minutes later went into standy again and refused to switch back on afterwards..
The box was back to normal after PSU repair..

I thought that, but recently Sly have been trumpeting put your box in standby and save the planet, so assumed they'd done something in a firmware update to change things

For the standard boxes its just a pr stunt to make Sky look as though they are doing something. If you really want to be green you should switch the box off at the wall every night. (Although if you do that you risk missing s/w updates of course.) :D

Yep, the Sky+ box is in my bedroom and was annoying to hear the hard drive firing up in the middle of the night, plus there was very little on there worth watching.

Ahaaa......mines in the front room so i dont get to hear the HDD in the middle of the night..
I dont mind Anytime recordings cos sometime i get to watch stuff normally i missed..
I wish Anytime would allow me to at least store my preferences so it doesn't record any bullshit..

Not quite all. It's still being rolled out in Sky's usual haphazard manner.

eg Pace DS430Ns haven't got it yet.

Mind you, as soon as it does, it will be disabled. Sky could learn a few things from Humax about how to design boxes for proper low power standby instead of trying to con people that just turning off the Video and Audio Outputs is environmentally friendly.

My Pace 430 has a further problem, but only on the SKY News channel after we switch it back on again - no sound when we select SKY "Active". Is this part of the same overall problem?
