I phoned up VM yesterday to complain that my bill was £10 higher than the contract (100mb +phone + Free Cable TV) so they have arranged a refund of £10 every month for the duration of the contract :)

Now my Internet has gone ballistic :)

You could download the whole Interweb thingy in minutes!

Shame about the miserly upload speed, though ......

I wish open reach would offer more than the upto 76mb or the 80/20 package.

It’s about time fttp was rolled out at an “affordable” price!

They can't afford to, they've got too many shareholders to pay money to out of the money we pay to them though extortionate line rental fees...

The standard fibre is supposed to be able to handle 1gb each way, like it has been implemented in other countries.

From what I understood was it’s the open reach infrastructure that can’t handle that amount of data flowing around the net.

It’s a mind boggling figure!

The theory is they can make the speeds available, but the money isn't there to widen up the roads leading into the information superhighway, heck, I know people across the pond in backwater holes who have gigabit internet access, and we're the ones stuck with the rutted dirt tracks for web access... :-doh

Wireless Broadband offers an alternative to Copper and Fibre.

Even my now outdated FWA system often reaches 40Mbps during the daytime, newer versions can do 100Mbps.

But, in the same way as people equate "Sky" with Satellite TV, they also get stuck with a "Landline" mindset for Broadband & Phone.

I know in a lot of other countries you no longer need to have the land line, you can have naked Broadband  no need to pay line rental.

I wish I could get rid of the land line altogether, that would also stop the ambulance chasers phoning at all hours to boot.

Because the mobile signal is so flaky here, I don't think we could do without our land line. However, it is VOIP, hence if our power goes off (which it does on occasion) we are sans communication.

Wireless Broadband offers an alternative to Copper and Fibre.

Except where Ping times are required to be fast, such as online gaming... :)

Plenty fast enough for VOIP, which is good enough for me.

Just had a look at Ping requirements for Gaming and FWA copes admirably, it would seem.

Shitty Talk Talk done a persuado version of that, no call plan just the line for BB use. I cut the extension line I had run for the phone about 9 months ago so have no phone plugged in just the router is plugged into the master socket, no cold calls..... Awesome.

Just over a week since the vodafone broadband started, seems pretty consistent so far:
