Excellent news Nelson ..
Looks like the change to 8psk is indeed the reason then ...and not possible at low sig levels with these changes ..
No chance for me here ..as its always been a bit border line ..
Even before the changes you where getting one more tp than me ..
Do I take it you got the lock using the new plate ??

VS

yes i used to get 2 t.p.s before it changed --
its still displayed on my tv - locked at 66% now
yes - using the new plate - have not altered it since yesterday evening -l.n.b. is still wrapped in a bin liner -- l.o.l.
i,m slowly working my way across all the C band circular sats -as and when i get the time - i am pleased with all the results so far:)

cheers

Well no one is more pleased than me m8 ..
I'm very happy you made one up and confirmed what I've been saying for the last 12 months..
I really couldn't believe it when I first stumbled upon the basic concept ..
Too good to be true I thought ..
If only there was a similar fix for the H/V transponders ..but circular is certainly improved.

If I never have another good idea ....that one was a cracker..
;)
cheers m8

On another note ..
That Vantage certainly is impressive when it comes to locking very weak signals ...
Next time you visit ..pop it in the car with you ..
I'd love to see if and by how much it outperforms the F15 on the weak tps..
I might be tempted to add one to the arsenal.

i use the vantage mainly for searching C band nowadays - but its not HD -

the above pic is taken from a spiderbox the only HD box i have - it seems to have a decent tuner also
yes it would be interesting to do some comparisons

Can't see what they are saying ..as I'm not a member .
But being a nosey old sod ...I _am_ curious.

the thin teflon one i made way back then - didnt perform though --

nothing recent though from me --:)
havent posted in C band forum there for a while

No probs m8 ..
Like I said ...just me being nosey anyhoo..

Glad tho' that the newer version lived up to the promises..
Still think its a combination of shape / size /thickness and most importantly ..material..
I know it works ..I just wish I understood 100% why ...
keep posting the reports m8..
They make interesting reading ..
Time for a nice strong cuppa now ..

yes
i think there is plenty still to learn about this type of plate -
yesterdays experiments have revived my satellite interests somewhat -- other hobbies have been taking my spare time - the last month or two - there just are not enough hours in the day -- l.o.l.

Impressive Nelson ...
I still can only get a maximum of around 5db ...
Not enough to lock that transponder ...
..but at least I know its now a possible ..even in the UK

Wasn't at all surprised when Qwer locked it on his monster dish ..but am surprised that you managed it.
Baybe ..just maybe when the ESX arrives ..

A quick question Nelson ..

I've managed to tweak the signal up to 7.1 db ...but still no lock ..

What is odd is that the 7.1db ...drops to almost zero every 3 seconds ...like clockwork ..

Do you experience any variation once the signal is locked ?

If not then I can only summise its some sort of local interferance pattern ..
with a 3 second interval ...
The sort of interval that could be accounted for by a beacon ..or rotating radar dish ..
certainly odd ..

my reciever behaves the same way until it reaches 60% quality then just jumps in and out of lock holding 60 % quality -- wont display a picture until it reaches 62% and even then still some intermittent freezing on the picture -- gone again now the cloud is back - just flicking in and out of lock at 60%
both times i,v locked this t.p. has been around this time of day ---

cheers ---

Thanks Nelson ..
That suggests it to be an anomaly associated with the startimes tps's

Further confirmed as I get exactly the same dropout pattern on
3932 R
tp 7C StarTimes TV DVB-S2
MPEG-4
Conax 12750-5/6
8PSK

which I've now peaked at 6.6db ...but again drops suddenly to zero

Some kind of countermeasure employed to restrict reception and receiver lock to the intended coverage area ?

Also just checked on the F15s built in Speccy ...
Analyser shows no interference spikes ..

Just checked Qwers pics again ..
You'll notice he's using the F16 ...basically the same box ....but of course a much bigger dish ..so is getting a solid 13db+

From this I can only assume whatever coutermeasure they are using restricts any receivers lock to the stronger ..intended footprint area ..unless you have an oversized dish to compensate.

I'm guessing a weak signal with an intermittent pulse on the carrier ..plays havoc with the agc unless ..a signal over a predetermined level is aquired..
Sort of makes sense..

Creates a threshold ...and what is effectively a false fringe footprint.

_If_ what I'm suggesting holds any truth ...then theoretically ...a receiver with a less responsive agc...would allow the tuner to accomodate and hold the higher lever of gain for a long enough period to ignore the countermeasure.

The carrier isn't pulsing on the spectrum, so it must just be the receiver trying to lock it and failing. Have you tried the Openbox. I think Nelson is using a Spiderbox (which I think is one and the same as the Openbox) so maybe you might catch it with that. You might find the tuner is better for 8PSK than the other receiver. Just a thought!

Certainly worth a go Huevos ..
Its a bit odd ...
Normally a signal around 7 db ..will lock just about any 8psk channel ..from previous experience of locking HD channels etc ..
It certainly can't hurt to try ..

Oh well ..
worth a try I suppose..
Hooked up the S9HD to exactly the same source..

If nothing else its proved the tuner in the F15 is vastly superior ..

Not sure if its too late to try ..but both the transponders I listed above are showing around 45 Signal ..and a fluctuating 7 to 10% Quality ...
Thats a huge difference from the F15 ..

So looks like lack of signal atm ..
And yet checking the channels at 1West ..shows little variation between the 2 boxes..
Confused ...I certainly am.
