I get it via the update panel on Openpli 8.3.
you can download cams channel lists etc all at the touch of a button.
there are loads of different oscam versions on there (most had the same results what you have now regarding fransat)
then I tried oscam+ultracam (after deleting all other traces of the other oscam versions) and it worked fine.

I already had 11718 installed so tried with this because google won't find 1.272-emu-r798

I added the Fransat details backs but always get :

READER DEVICE ERROR
(no entitlements)

I think I am going around in circles here.

1) I don't know which way around I have to insert the card into the reader. Edision, as expected, does not provide any informaiton on this even if they made the card reader....

2) It is likely that any configuration I add into the oscam.* files won't work, because there are no instructions for oscam. Nobody actually seems to have a clear idea of the file structure and what is required and why. It's all a stab in the dark.

3) That a specific version of oscam is required for Fransat makes me think that there is a QA problem, because nobody can identify why a specific version + revision works, and another does not.

4) Configuration files are distributed 755! See point 3. Also, the files in /etc/tuxbox/config ought to be sym linked to the currently used oscam binary. This ought to be managed by some sort of script, but it is not.

The only real option is to identify what makes oscam work with Fransat, build this ourselves for ARM, and document this properly.


However, for our sanity it is on github. I am off over there.

Does anybody know what programme name oscam uses for messages? I want to send it to syslog. Perhaps I can get some logging going.

this is exactly what I had at first. so it looks like the settings are all ok and it just a matter of trail and error to find the right version of oscamn.
as you said in a earlier post there is little/no official support for oscam nowadays (10 years or more) the only help you can get is via forums such as these.

I understand. it can be really annoying if the firmware is not to your taste/needs.
you can of coarse always go back to what you have now if you don't like open pli as it will cost you nothing but a little time.

I deleted all the reader lines in the oscam.server file, and added one definition for FRANSAT. ( which forum rules disallow me from posting on this thread ).

I killed the running oscam processes, and ran this:

# /usr/softcams/oscam-latest --config-dir /etc/tuxbox/config/ --daemon -S -d4 -restart 2 --utf8 2

The -S -d4 is for the extra debug information.

/etc/init.d/softcam.oscam-latest is where this should be called from, but from some reason Enigma2 is calling it from somewhere weird. I think I will have to stop it from the openvix TV GUI, and and use update-rc.d to get it to run from init.d, which is a far better place to do it anyway.

FRANCE 2 appeared as soon as I had inserted the card the right way up...

OK, so here is what I recommend:

1. Disable the oscam stuff in the OpenVIX ( or OpenPLI / ATV ext) menu.

I stopped it from autostarting using these menus from the remote control:-

Menu -> Setup -> Softcam Manager -> Softcam manager -> press the blue button to toggle to Disable Startup.

This is because this reads the config from /etc/tuxbox/config instead of /etc/tuxbox/config/$OSCAM_VERSION

2. Install the latest oscam from the repos.
I doubt the version matters so long as it is recent.
The version as I write is 1.20+svn11726-r2

opkg install enigma2-plugin-softcams-oscam-latest

Installing this package will create the directory /etc/tuxbox/config/oscam-latest that we will use later.

3. Nuke the existing oscam.server, and add new config.
I nuked it bcause I was just using this for Fransat. The other settings just got in the way.
I have removed the aeskeys as per forum rules. Please replace ADD_YOU_AES_KEYS_HERE with the keys, which you can probably find via Google on a forum.

5. OPTIONAL: If you want your Oscam to log to syslog, which means you can read the messages in /var/log/messages, and you have not configured this already, then add this:

You can check if this was already done with this:

If you get output similar to this, then it was already done.

6. Test your oscam config on the command line with:

You can see what is happening if you tail the logfile with this command. You can exit the logging by pressing "Ctrl C"

And set your TV to FRANCE 2 on 5W, and see if it works.
Mine took a few seconds to start decrypting the TV channels.
Others mentioned ten mins, but I suspect the few seconds is more likely.
If you get nothing check that you card is inserted in the right way up. I leant the hard way. ;)

If it works then kill oscam with this. (You can run this a few times if you are unsure if the process is killed.)

7. Set this oscam to start at boot.

8. Test the start scripts work

Start oscam:

Change channel to a France channel and see if it works.
Stop oscam:

/etc/init.d/softcam.oscam-latest stop
The channel you were watching should freeze.

9. If Step 8 works, then reboot, and see if all comes up.

reboot

or use the remote control reboot : Menu -> Standby & Restart -> Reboot

the use of the official card in a device other than the approved receiver is not illegal:
I witnessed a trial between Viaccess and Powercam and the courts acquitted Powercam.
What would be illegal would be to operate in emulation mode.
the dialogue between card and receiver is based on the Eurocrypt protocol which is royalty-free.

No, it is not.

At best this might be a breach of contract with many providers, but this is hard to see what laws a provider could enforce.

If anything, Fransat are in breach of Article 3(1) of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD), which provides that member states “shall not restrict retransmissions” of broadcasts from another member state, which is what Fransat are doing.

Cardsharing is illegal outside your own network, but this thread is not about that activity. I have my own Fransat card, which by the way was much cheaper to buy new from Amazon than what you wanted to charge me for yours. Enough said.

I should say that we are covered.

You misunderstand the difference between a breach of contract, civil law, and criminal law.

A company can write what they like in B2C sales, but it does not make it legal, and breaching a contract does not equate to an illegal activity. A company can wrote what they like.

It is similar to a region free DVD player, or rooting your Android phone. Companies tried to sue but failed.

EU law and Directives trump national laws and companies.

Card sharing is not illegal in practice. What is illegal is selling services and profiting from items you are not permitted to sell, which infringes on copyright law and a few others as well.

Case 1 - A person has a legitimate subscription registered to his / her property. They use the third party software to share their very legitimate sub to another receiver in their home which is registered with the provider. There is no infringement on any law in this land (UK), and anybody who says there is will need to point me in the direction of the case which has the law / statute behind it.

In case 1 - if the person with the legitimate sub shares it with themselves even at another property i.e. a 2nd home, where only they will access the service that is subscribed too will be hard pushed to be breaking the law.

However, if at any point you resell these services you are breaking lots of laws which carry severe penalties.

In the UK (same for EU given that laws are pretty much transposed into UK law. Even post Brexit laws remain similar along with International Law) it can almost certainly be that there will never be a case of anyone being prosecuted when they are sharing with themselves or not for profit, and the reason being that if the providers lost the case that - which I think they would, that would set a precedent and it would be open season.

So in answer to the question, 3rd party software used with recievers is not illegal at all. If you think different point me in the direction of laws where people have been prosecuted who have not been selling a service they are not entitled too.
