"Taming" cats is a long and sometimes painful process - 9yrs ago a very skinny little B&W adolescent cat started kipping in our conservatory - probably because our other B&W cat often sleeps there in his "box" and his dry cat food was in the kitchen, and the little one just would not go away - in hindsight that was because he had nowhere to go. Then he would occasionally come into the living room and it was obvious that he kinda wanted to stay, and so, finally, we started to feed him cat treats - and that was "it"!
He stayed on, and after a lot of "training" (especially not to claw/bite!) he finally got very attached to SWMBO, and now, about 4yrs after that, he has become an absolutely lovely little Puss - I called him Scruffy because that's what he was when he arrived, but now he's a very pretty looking feline. He's very intelligent (for a cat!) and with very big eyes, especially when he attempts to "stare you out" (most cats won't do that), and he has/will boss the much larger old B+W cat (not surprising, the old cat was always timid and so just plain "thick" that I often call him Dimbo!).
Both are happy to eat most meaty/fishy things except anything spicy or heavily flavoured (especially the older one) and Tuna in Spring Water (but not brine or oil) goes down very well. Scruffy has also taken a liking to anything with chocolate in it, and so SWMBO's chocolate muffins and the like, and also anything she is drinking from, have to be "well guarded" when he's around.
Only downside is that he has a heart murmur which means he needs expensive (£1/day!) tablets every day, which is where the tuna came in - otherwise we would have no fingers left it we had tried to put them down his throat
