This thread is making me want to get my 1.2m CM dish for 1W in the ground. I think that could be next week's project if the weather is OK.

I´ll try to make this the last ( and on this occasion slightly tenuous link, musically ) but promise nothing on account of my schizophrenic tendency, on what is, after all, a very serious post about dish installation.

More work done on the Jumbo motor this morning. As the motor's spindle at the bottom has a groove - something that does not exist on the original one - to stop the bottom plate rotating around if the bolt isn't done up tight, I thought I would adapt the original bottom plate to make use of it.

I've also replaced all the bolts to INOX/stainless steel/нержавейка including the top declination adjusting screw. It's all done up tight, since the declination will be handled by a jack rather than be fixed.

Have also done the trunking along the garden fence but missing a few bits for handling the corners - so need to order those.

Also ordered more steelwork to do the declination and actual attachment to the dish. Really need to get that welder....

What kind of trunking are you using? I need to sort something out too as my dish will be half way down the garden.

CJ,

The swing bolt used for the declination looks good, could you please let me know the supplier?

Thx

Timo, I am using 25mm trunking that you can get from DIY stores. It comes with assorted joiners and terminators (yes, Brian, of the Schwarzenegger :p). I got a 20 pack from Screwfix...

Tower Conduit Heavy Gauge 25mm x 2m Black (40m) Pack of 20

Here's what it looks like - not the best pictures and it's not finished yet. I managed to fit 3x coax cables and 2x 36v motor cables with room for another coax. A 20mm one is also available and is probably better for your needs.

If I was to do this again, I would definitely get premixed concrete delivered. This was very hard work and the materials cost just as much as the delivered one...
Quitter!

This the concrete base for the garden shed, sorry workshop, going down in 2009. All mixed by us using the concrete mixer shown. The colour scheme is my brother's idea...Plinth1.jpg Plinth2.jpg

Washing up liquid has a similar effect on my skin (so I tell the wife after preparing dinner).
It explodes on contact with testosterone I believe.

Made a start on the motorised mount for the dish. Very simple - just two iron angle pieces, a couple of threaded rods and two rose joints. The rose joints will bolt onto similar 'rails' on the Jumbo motor and will form the hinge for the dish to move on. The end of the jack will attach to the 12mm rod at the top. I may adjust the attachment mechanisms but this is the general idea and will be more or less the same as the one I had for my Gibertini dish.

(the rod at the top is for illustration - it will be one piece on the end product)
