Use USALS, to control your motor, this lets your receiver work out most of it for you, by using your Latitude, and Longitude, to work out your position, then navigate your motor/dish, once set up, to the various satellites.
Using Diseqc 1.2, to control your motor, means that you have to use your receiver, to move your dish, East, and West, to find the correct satellite, then store each position, on your receiver, using a number, e.g. 19 for 19.2E, but once they are all stored, it will work automatically, so that when you select a satellite, the motor/dish will move to that satellite.

How many dishes/LNB's do you have connected to a Diseqc switch?
USALS is preferred.

Previous setup
Receiver input 1 -
4 port DiSEqC switch with;
  • Dish/LNB 1; 9e,13e,19.2e.
  • Dish/LNB 2; 28.2e, 2nd LNB port spare - same satellite.
Receiver input 2 -
  • Dish/LNB 3; 28.2e single feed (not accessible and cannot be changed so might as well use it). Located far away from the other dishes and switch.
Current setup
Receiver input 1 -
4 port DiSEqC switch with;
  • Dish/LNB 1; Motor needs setup.
  • Dish/LNB 2; 28.2e, 2nd LNB port spare - same satellite.
Receiver input 2 -
  • Dish/LNB 3; 28.2e single feed (not accessible and cannot be changed so might as well use it). Located far away from the other dishes and switch.
--------------

Will I be able to use the 4 port DiSEqC switch with Dish/LNB 1 (using USALS) and Dish/LNB 2 (2 feeds, same satellite)?

Main receiver is an Octagon SF8008.

I haven't got an Octogan SF8008, but I think it's an enigma 2 receiver, so setting it up shouldn't be a problem.
I would sort the motor out first, before connecting the other dishes, and your Diseqc switch, just run a single cable, straight from your motor to your receiver, then once that's working, add the Diseqc switch.

There are probably videos, online, showing how to configure your tuner, to get everything you want.

I managed to add the DiSEqC motor to the pole over the weekend, after many years of planning and waiting. ^_^

The channels all scan in okay on my meter and my ancient boxes, but the SF8008 using OpenATV 7.3 is proving a right pain, the results are not consistent at all, most of the time I can't get it to move the motor, it will only move to satellites where channels are already scanned in, is I go to positioner setup it doesn't move the motor. None of the scanning options work, if I get it on a satellite it scans 38 channels total, which is very inaccurate. Have others experienced similar with an SF8008?

Try going into the menu, Setup, Tuners and Scanning, Positioner Setup, scroll down to fine movement, and nudge East/West, to see if you can improve the satellite Signal Quality.

Can you please post signal quality readings, on various satellites, then post the Satellite, Channel, Transponder information and Signal Quality readings.

It's not the receiver that's the problem in terms of signal. U need to tweak the position using the motor . Sf8008 is a solid receiver as is blind scan

Could be a faulty E2 image or upload.

Unfortunately I cannot even get the box to go to a position.
I assume you mean readings from the SF8008? at the moment I only have 3 satellites programmed, 1 existing 28.2 and the other two not scanning all of the channels.
I can get arbitrary percentages from my old sky box f5s box that moves the motor and scans the channels in as expected?

I hear what your saying, I have good signal on my other receivers so trying to work out why the SF8008 isn't moving the motor and also "seeing" the signal.

Certainly possible. I have also tried Open ATV 7.0 and Define OS and they behave the same, I could try a different image.

How have you set up the Tuner, on your SF8008, for the motor?
You probably need to set it to Diseqc 1.2, then save each satellite, to a different number, and when asked if you want to use USALS, leave it as Yes.

Sounds like you haven't configured the tuners on your box , and why don't you down load a channel list from the plug ins and install that

And to be honest your not following a guide by the sounds of it.
If as you have said your pole is plumb and your dead centre then you should be starting at 0.8w.
I assume the old boxes have your old config s that's why they are picking up sats

Signal finder is quite handy too in tuner setup. Moves the dish until it locks a signal

I set it as;
  • Configuration mode - Simple
  • Mode - Positioner (selecting satellites)
  • OK to select satellites
  • Longitude and latitude entered
  • Save
I appear to have used the wrong settings.

I want to achieve on one input, this;

4 port DiSEqC switch with;
  • Dish/LNB 1; Motor needs setup.
  • Dish/LNB 2; 28.2e, 1 or 2 feeds, same position.

I think you're right I haven't configured the tuners correctly, therefore I ask above how to achieve my objective.
I'm satisfied the signal is there, just need to configure the tuner.

Don't use simple, for your motor.
Go into the menu, Setup, Tuners and Scanning, select Tuner Setup and change it from Simple, to Advanced.
Select a satellite, set your LNB input, then set DiSEqC mode, to 1.2, then configure the rest of the settings, you can then either use USALS, or set it so that you set the positions manually.
Store the position, on a suitable number, e.g. 19 for Astra 1, 19.2E, save, and set a few other satellites, for testing.

Do that for every sat you want, you can use USALS - Yes or No. If no store number relevant to sat

Like this?

USALS - yes
[Satellite name1] LNB1
[Satellite name2] LNB2
[Satellite name3] LNB3

or
USALS - yes
[Satellite name1] LNB1
[Satellite name2] LNB1
[Satellite name3] LNB1

You might need a Diseqc 1.1 command, as you seem to have your motor going through a Diseqc switch, but I haven't set my motor, through a Diseqc switch, so you need to experiment.

Searching found this but think it's 2 recievers.

Tuner config is "Advanced".

Config as follows:

28E:
LNB 1
DiSEqC mode: 1.0
Committed DiSEqC command: AA

All other satellites:
LNB 2
DiSEqC mode: 1.2
Committed DiSEqC command: AB
Use usals for this sat: yes

Used to have a sky dish and motor but can't remember my setup

Id make sure all sat are achieved first just on the motor before setting up the switch config s.

I do need to try this, using the previous advice about setting the positioner to advanced etc has improved the movement of the motor but still not consistently and I'm also not getting the correct scan results, like I say I know the final is there becuse my other receivers show it.

I'm going to get an SD card and try a fresh image so will be a while before I report back.
