The Baikonur Cosmodrome is undergoing planned preparations for the launch of the Eutelsat-5WB and MEV-1 spacecraft using the Proton-M heavy launch vehicle. The contract for their launch was signed by International Launch Services, Inc. and global satellite operator Eutelsat S.A.
In accordance with the launch schedule, Russian and foreign specialists continue to conduct autonomous tests of components of the space head. On September 5, 2019, the specialists of the SCNC. M.V. Khrunicheva (part of Roscosmos State Corporation) and Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems (satellite manufacturer) have carried out a number of joint electrical inspections of the transition system for fitting tests.
The transitional adapter system developed and manufactured at the Khrunichev Center will ensure the docking of spacecraft with the Breeze-M booster. A series of fitting tests for the compatibility of the transitional system interfaces and The Eutelsat-5WB and MEV-1 satellites is scheduled for September 6.
The launch of the Proton-M launch vehicle with the Breeze-M booster and the Eutelsat-5WB and MEV-1 spacecraft is scheduled to take place at the end of September 2019.

Eutelsat 5 West B & MEV 1 update

Eutelsat 5 West B will join Eutelsat’s communications fleet in geostationary orbit, replacing the Eutelsat 5 West A spacecraft providing digital and television services primarily in the French, Italian and Algerian markets. The MEV 1 spacecraft is the first in a series of satellite servicing vehicles for SpaceLogistics, a subsidiary of Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems. MEV 1 will dock with the Intelsat 901 communications satellite and provide propulsion and attitude control functions to extend the spacecraft’s mission. Delayed from May. [Aug. 29]
