Eutelsat 5 West a 5°West europe, americas, africa 35 Ku/10 C 35 Ku/14 C July 2002 end of geostationary life Q4 2019.

7A looks like a good back up if 5WB fails,
This will scupper Eutelsat's plans for 7A,
It should go to 139°W and renamed Eutelsat 139 West A.

Oh blimey. There not much to go wrong with solar panels so any "incident" is serious

I can think of:

physical damage by space debris

short circuit on the electrical bus

motor damage so the panels cant be optimised for solar illumination

Sounds like potential bad news for Eutelsat, if one half of the solar panels on the planned 5WB can't be used, then it's highly unlikely it'll be capable of taking over 5WA as intended, with 5WB at best being a backup for something else as Eutelsat figure out what could fill the void of 5WA going out of DTH service and getting a replacement for 5WB sorted (presumably named 5WC).

OTOH, it's a possible temporary reprieve for those whom were outside the intended "Transalpine" footprint.

Before you all get excited about replacements and what not remember its quite possible that 5WB could go into service with half its tp load operational should one solar panel be damaged beyond use. Its only one panel that is causing concern so half the power supply is still working.

Still no up to date TLE for confirmation.
But possibly, both Eutelsat 5 West B and Eutelsat 7C are now near 1.6°E for testing, very confusing!
