The Transalpine beam covers Italy and France it seems very well. Reception in the UK is good too. So where does this leave 9east? Will the Italian multi stream leave there or will they leave 5WB in favour of 9 east? I cannot see the Italian services staying on both...

Italian multistream has a very likely chance to leave 5WB, sadly...

Dual illumination until the Italian receive dishes have been swung round - Eutelsat are having to pay up to €10million to have ground antennas repointed

A good reason to move Eutelsat 7A or Eutelsat 13E to 5 west & save £8,432,969.10 :)

They should have installed motorised systems in the first place.

why do the Italians want to use a satellite at a different position?
from what I read,a total waste of energy and money!
they' ve been on hotbird for ages...

5W (& soon to be 9E) are the terrestrial transmitter feeds. (Or possibly the transmitter backup feeds.)

12690V is almost locking atm - its jumping around between unlocked & ~8dBW every few seconds. Ive managed to get the 2 tv labels on this freq to scan in The ex sky UK lnb wrong way skew is probably killing any chance of getting it to lock properly.

The other unlocked frequencies are not exhibiting this behavior.

The strange shape of this Transalpine footprint cuts off Western Spain & Portugal ? So it looks like the predicted footprint is a good guide sad to say.View attachment 128401

Looking on the bright side, I now have the perfect excuse to buy a TNT sat receiver for Astra 1, and I can give my Fransat card and box and a 60 or 80cm dish to my sister in Cardiff, also a Francophile!!

In deed. I would say real reception is even worse than projected, because if you extrapolate the coutour lines till, say 39 dBW, i sould be able to receive almost everything.

I'm having extremely hard time. No signal during most of time, sometimes breaking up. It seems I must be close to a null. I have some vertical transponders coming in, but very marginally.

Can we make a short summary of current status?
How many Transponders are (really) fully activated in 5 West B?
PS: I measured the data service in 11590H /30000 as 90dBuV (75 ohm), where as some transponders I do receive are in the range of ~70 dBuV. This strong carrier can't be in 5WB just yet...

I know some more services are scheduled to move next February 6th. But it seems they can't move all.
What are the best candidates to move next?
What will happen to remaining services?
And last question: how much time is it reasonable to think 5 West A can be still in operation in inclined orbit?

If the Italian dish slewing project is completed by Feb 6th then the Italian multi streams can be discontinued & the capacity used for Fransat.

Eutelsat 5 West A will be replaced by another Eutelsat satellite soon,

Probably Eutelsat 7A as this one can move after 7C starts tonight @ 7 east there are some other possibilities that Eutelsat will inform customers of Fransat soon.

I don't trust Lyngsat so much, but ok, maybe is accurate in this case.
So, if I count correctly we have already 17 TPs activated on 5WB --> Maximum capacity.
11 of these are Italian DTT feeds.
And we still have 9 transponders active on old 5WA.

So... if all 11 Italian TPs move to 9ºE, is it really needed that Eut. 7A moves to 5ºW ?
It makes no sense to me making all this effort to move italian DTT feeds to 9ºE if in a few weeks they'll have the 7A backup in 5ºW position.
That's why I asked how much longer could 5WA still be usable...

Bigger dishes at the downlink heads at the transmitters = smaller acceptance angle. The more 5WA wobbles the longer the dishes will be having no signal each day.If the dishes arent seeing any signal loss yet they certainly will be in a few weeks time. Even with household dishes you will notice signal loss once the inclination gets up to half a degree or so
