A couple of hours ago I blindscanned 57E and I found that among the Ethiopian channels started "FOX MOVIES Middle East"

The reception is stable with 150cm PF dish and the "magic plate "

Reception details:

NSS-12 @ 57° East

3662 L 5800 3/4

DSC01559.JPG

i THINK EVEN IN ENGLAND the signal is strong enought to get it with a decent dish

This shows its digital ---- 3662 L 5800 3/4

According to the NSS-12 footprint map the downlink power on the west beam is about 39dBW in Kent. Theoretically that requires about a 1.8m dish, although a well adjusted 1.5 might get you something as DoS has got a 1.5.

Oh and a C-band lnb and a receiver that will do C-band :D

You're going to need line of sight though too. 57E is only 12 degrees elevation from here.

You barely had line of sight to badr over the chimney to the left of the decking, let alone a view of 57e. Check dispointer to see which way 57 east is. If my memory of your site serves me correctly you don't have much of a chance, unless it goes on the roof. A plumb bob and string fixed to a protractor will tell you more.

Other than that, I think the 1.8m should be OK for C band, but you'd need a new LNB holder, as C-band LNBs are about 60mm diameter or thereabouts, and the scalar ring quite large.

Near enough 57E is way over to the east a little south of due east and 10 degrees or so above the ideal horizon.

If Robbo is right and you barely clear an obstruction to get 26/28E you can forget it

There's some C band on 1W though if you fancied a play, you have LOS to that, not sure what the footprint map tells us though.

Is 57e as low as say, sea meets sky? If it is then I will never get that as I'm in a huge dip I struggle to pick up fm radio! I get fox movies on nilesat but that's going soon to 201 I get it on badr 6 but if the weather is bad that goes so I fort it could be a back up.

On that info Id say you have no chance - its about 10-12 degrees above an ideal horizon (which would basically be looking out to sea). If there are hills in the way its pretty unlikely

Not sure if this information will be useful to you ..but..

I receive signals in C band on my 1.8m prime focus from 58 West ...
which is a similar elevation to your target of 57 East ...
I'm located in near Manchester which is on average : - Approximately 125 metres above sea level

Luckilly I have relatively clear line of sight ....but I have noticed that the longer wavelengths involved in C band reception will penetrate ...to some degree.....a thin low density bush or tree ....
The leaves present less of a problem in C band than KU ..
but a solid object such as a wall or building ....
..no chance ..
Dishpointer is definately your friend in this instance as you can factor in objects which might spoil your line of sight ..
My 1.8m dish is mounted with a pole of 1.9m

Most of the birds covering Yankland are below our western horizon so you can forget them immediately...
