A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Thanks CH ..
comparable in many respects to Christina
approx 820mm
fd approx 0.4 >0.45
Material thickness and rigidity is much as expected ...but was hoping closer to 2mm..
Might work though as a second skin ..
If it doesn't ..I can always remove it again I spose
;)

Are you thinking of chopping it up just for extensions or overlaying Xtina with it from the centre outwards?

And on a related note, is it feasible to simply strengthen the Jonsa dish on its own? Perhaps with some sort of exoskeleton?

A complete overlay from the centre outwards would be the first test ...
The FD would be less of an issue ..
Not ruled out the possibility of using it for extensions tho'
and as to your 2nd point ..I too have considered this ...and see no reason why this wouldn't be a feasible modification and effective way to get a cheap big bud for Cband..

Martin, 20E is the best one to try with a 1.2m - will easily get a few (if not most) channels from there with rain margin (not forgetting that C band signal are far less affected by rain than Ku and - especially - Ka band).

You will get some channels on 5W and a decent number on 40W. This should get you started :)
Thanks for the pointers CJ :), I will try and make some progress tomorrow, if the wife's ok we had a phone call around 5/30 today and her Granddad has passed away :(, he was 90 and had a good innings, but I don't think it hit her yet,

Always something but life has to go on :).

I've been tidying the shed out today to make some room for re-starting work on the mount for the 1.8, I've put pen to paper and could get it up and running for around £300 which i have in my dish fund, then sort the other bits out at a later date,

So my new plan is to try and get it up and running before Christmas, just ku and c band, no inclined tracking for the time being, which is probably for the best as I need to do a fair bit of studying on the controller and other things to do with it,

I felt sorry for my 1.2 standing toe to toe with his big bro :D.

Hi Martin :) Nice Picture! I'm envious of the 1.8. Go for it & good luck!
On a related note I'm working on my polar mount for my 1.2 & I thought well if I'm going to all this work maybe I should see if I can find a 1.8. So I'm gonna see if the local investment firms will part with one of their 1.8 Prodelins. All they can say is no. https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.3449...!1e1!3m2!1syc77NyHUQdyXMOa230NTkw!2e0!6m1!1e1

Thanks for the link martin. That gives me more ideas to go on. I've changed my mind about some aspects of my mount design. My original design was based on this thread http://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/threads/another-channel-master-polar-mount-attempt.201238/
I have abandoned the ring portion since it weighs 22lb. It didn't make sense to have the motor push & pull 22lb around just for the sake of some mounting points for the back of the dish. So I bought an AC welder & made up a steel rectangle instead of a ring that weighs roughly 10lb. I went out to the workshop & took some pics. The upper green tape will be replaced with some perforated steel (the 2nd pic) and bolts to hold it @ the right offset angle. The lower bits of green tape will be replaced with nuts & bolts.

But this might change pending the outcome of me chasing my dream of a Prodelin 1.8. I have another heavier duty polar mount from my MZT dish (last pic) that I can use.

Yes I think I am going to start again I need to get the pole fixed in and left to cure first hopefully tomorrow, then onto the mount, all the best with it and please keep us posted :).

I sat down in front of the computer this morning to do a bit of catch up reading. Then was called away to do work outside.

Decent weather today and dry over the next few days so it will be a good time for fiddling around outside.
