In the hour I had to play with it, the new software appears to have removed much of the illogical remote command moves that came with the first versions. There are a couple of quirks (full satellite vs transponder search) and channel sorting but overall it is a vast improovement.

It also recorded well to a small USB stick in SD and HD which was surprising.

Still not as user friendly as the V9S though.

I forgot to mention, the recording function is useful since it can be transferred straight to the laptop/pc and opened using VLC player.
Content is recorded in MPEG-2 TS Video (.ts) format with the following (HD recording) parameters

Video - 1280 x 720 frame size, 59 fps frame rate

Audio - 128 kbs bitrate, 44 kHz sampling

A 15 minute recording of NASA TV in HD takes up just under 1GB.

There are a number of ebay vendors promoting usb wifi antennas for the V7. Would these actually have any use since the menus dont appear to have a section for netwoking (no LAN socketry either)

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!

Yes, they work fine as that's how I had to do it with my V7 and Openbox because I ran out of connections on the network switch

My V7, and the OpenBox is similar, is not plugged in and I have no space to do that and fire up ATM. IIRC the network setup is buried somewhere in the installation menu and it's fiddly job to enter the network password because you have to do that using the remote control buttons.

Another customer has just called with a similar machine. (they say it is a V7S on front panel)

Is GTMedia still providing aftermarket upgrades of the 7 series products ?

I have seen V432 - release from April - just now but without the box in my hands I'm unsure if it is compatible, or legit.

Thanks in advance.

I wonder if that fixes the problem that I had with the V7S, i.e. it randomly but "regularly" screwed up the USALS settings in the Dark Motors motors down the garden, meaning that I then had to go down there and do manual resets on them - it took some time realise what the cause of the repeated problems was, but when I did then I stopped using that (otherwise pretty good & sensitive) Rx.

Ah, this was a remote fix as they had trouble with the receiver losing wifi access through the USB antenna port

I didn't think of asking about what motor they had outside but they said they'd not updated the machine since buying it.

Does anyone know how to stream from the GTMedia Golden V8 to VLC on a PC? i’ve got the PC and the V8 connected via a router but despite numerous google searches i cannot figure out how to do this. I’m running windows 10 and the latest version of VLC if that helps. i’m hoping to watch 4:2:2 feeds with it.

Don't know much about this model. Has it LAN port or wifi? You would also need to download a M3U file to a usb stick too, has it that option? Or a port number listed in the menus?

A newer model perhaps might be best, considering how cheap are.

Okay so it has both wifi and LAN, don’t know about downloading a M3U file but there is an IP address listed (no port numbers as far as I know) on the sat box LAN menu. There’s Sat2IP on the box which can be seen demonstrated here:

If I was to buy another box it would probably be a GTMedia Combo which does 4:2:2 on the box and has been discussed at length on here.
