Anyone tried the GI Octo LNB?
Is it like the other GI LNBs, where it performs much better than their Inverto Ultra Back LNBs?
Or any other good Octos worth mentioning?

Not tried the Octo, but the little brothers out perform the others on the market, possibly with the exception of the quad, where the goobay wins by a small amount, just my opinion

Oh! PS had conformation today that the 89 mm posts I need for the Laminas 1.8 dishes have been put into the order system.
Next week, possibly:D

OK was going to try the Laminas on this, but way too unstable

So plan B now in operation.

1.8-1.jpg

1.8-2.jpg

Angle is low as I was trying to get 52.0 E, stand not high enough to allow declination, got 52.5 though which is much stronger here.
Will try again when Dave has made custom mount!

PS Anyone setting one of these up, invite friends to a BBQ, bloody hard work on your own!

For the last few days, maybe up to a week, I´ve lost ITV HD on 11097V in the morning from a bout 08:00 - 10:00 on the 1.2 motor dish.
This morning it was booming in at 9.5 dB with no problems, anyone else noticed any similar variations these last few days?

Something to do with solar outage time perhaps...?

Maybe not on the Astra 2 satellites, but maybe on a feed satellite?
Only say this as I noticed over the last few years some channels on Astra 1 go very low and go off during the solar outage period, but early in the morning, not when the sun is behind the 19 east satellites...so must be some feed or uplinking satellite?

Did think that initially, but solar isn´t due to approx 5th March, and would not explain why signal today was 9.5 dB and nothing yesterday.
And no, the wife does not put the washing on a line in front of the dish!

It´s windy at castle Milamber today, so much so that I´ve added extra blocks on the temp set up, using the new mount made by Dave!
( Wind has nothing to do with last nights curry )

This weeks winds could be caused by this that was in the news this week....: :-)

A SHOOT-OUT on the streets of a sleepy Valencia-province town in the dead of night was the result of an argument about one of the victims' flatulence, police reveal.

A 57-year-old man and his son, 29, suffered gunshot wounds and a man aged 19 and a 16-year-old woman sustained multiple bruising.

They were taken to two different hospitals in the city of Valencia.
Police heard that the two younger men, said to be from 'rival families', were walking down a street in the Xenillet neighbourhood of Torrent, a few kilometres north-west of Valencia, just before the apparent clan warfare started.

One of the men passed wind loudly, but involuntarily, and the other responded by doing the same, except deliberately.

This led to an argument which became very heated and ended in a brawl, and other family members overheard and came outside to join in.

Some were armed, and the two families opened fire on each other.
At least 50 police officers were stationed in the immediate area to prevent further altercations, and two people were arrested for attempted homicide.

Solar outage has starting having an effect on the signals round here.
Lost almost 2 dB this morning on the 1.2m dish on 10758 V , no loss of signal, back up to 10 dB now. Did cause total loss on 11097 V which is now back up to 9.3 dB

Lost all spot beams on the 1.2 today, now back to 9.4 dB which is about normal for this time of day. Held on the 1.8 prime, but that dropped from 12 dB to 7.3 dB at lowest point. Expecting the usual phone calls!

Finally had a chance to play with the new big girl! Laminas 1.8 that is! She is good on direct line, over 1 - 1.5 dB better than the Famaval 1.8 pf when aimed direct at the satellite, but, like her little sister seems to have problems finding the " sweet spot " for 28.2 -5.
Direct lock on either satellite is great, but finding the happy medium to get all together is very difficult to say the least.
Can gain over 1.5 db on 11097 V when aimed direct, but a slight nudge to improve 10818 V gives total loss on 11097 V.
For now, have settled with 12.9 dB on 11097 V and 11.2 dB on 10818 V, which is 1.5 dB up and 0.8 dB down respectively.
Had the same problem with the 1200 P Laminas which was a problem on the fixed mount , but works fine on the motor. I blame the lower support arm, but could be wrong.
Cannot wait for CJ to set his up to see what he finds.
Will play more soon, and update!

To be expected with a dish of that size, no? :) Greater directionality and all that... What you need is *two* of the beasties :D
