For that money you can have a Zero. I know which I'd rather have.

Didn´t they only work once?

OK, new toys have arrived, the 4 1200 Laminas are already booked out ( sold ) so need to order some more of those asap.
The 1800 have also arrived, but, I have a problems with these. The mount is designed for a 89 - 95 cm pole, although they do fit on an 80 cm pole using the supplied locking nuts. The problem is due to the dimensions of the complete system. The standard floor mount for a Famaval is only 90 cm tall, to coorectly mount the Laminas it needs to be 110 -120 cm tall to allow for full elevation / declination.
Time to call Dave, my friend with a metal workshop, for custom stands. I´m not paying 275€ for the Laminas version!

Give me a chance, they only arrived today! Package weight, according to the notice on the side, 100Kg each! Not quite that heavy, but the delivery guy needed help to get them off the wagon, and although I help out a couple of removals companies, I found them heavy too! Each " box " was at least 80Kg
Flat dishes laid on the ground don´t make good pics! So, in a day or two, will post some pics of one the the 1800´s when I have it up. Need to source a suitable stand first. For now fixed mount, but maybe later could get the polar mount and motorise it, but then I´d have to remove the two month old 1200 motorised!
The other one is for sale though!

Sorry, just realised, did not state on this thread, 2 x 1800 in the box, hence one for sale! ( possibly, time will tell )

OK, no pictures, but I cannot put the dishes up as have no suitable mount, and here is why.
The following pics show the mount for the Laminas 1.8, she is big, and she is heavy,

mount1.jpg ,mount2.jpg

She should accept a 100 mm pole no problem, but she hides a secret, internal threaded studs, that shrink her max pole diameter to between 890 - 950 mm

No wonder Laminas want over 220€ for their post mount, ....... a little sneaky I thought!

Drill those studs off and weld nuts outside the pipe instead of them.

Like the thought, but, if you look closely you will see the studs go right through the housing. If I could find a very flexible blade, just to cut the inner part, that would be better, but as they cap the top, not sure how to do it.

Any ideas?

Sorry, missed your point the first time, If I remove the entire stud, and re-weld nuts on the outside, that would work!, BUT, nobody round here makes a 100 cm mount 120 - 130 cm high, prime focus don´t need them that big.
Conundrum methinks !

One of such a studs started to go around on one of the mounts I have. So< i drilled it out and welded nut there.

I could do that, but it does not get round the height problem, figure better to adapt a 80 mm or 100 mm mount to elevate it to the height, and if needed, use slightly longer locking bolts, you could, in theory, use longer bolts and lock the mount to a 40 mm pole, of which I have at a height of 120 cm which should give me ground clearance

Sorry, told lies! the pole is a 50mm

Could the pole not be adapted in some way ?

Yes it could! And that is why I am trying to get hold of Dave! A very good friend of mine with a metal workshop.
Standard 80 cm floor stands are 87 cm high, for the Laminas 1800 I need at least 110 cm, preferably 120. Notice the Laminas is 160 cm ( guess peeps are taller in Poland ) to give full ground clearance at all possible elevation angles. I´m hoping Dave can custom build a 150 - 160 cm high mount with a diameter of 90, won´t know till I get him by the .............

Last summer I made this ground stand. lower piece is made of pipe with wall thickness 8mm and can easily hold any pipe (up to 100mm) inside and also allows to make pipe plumb.

Exactly what I was thinking, in reverse, the dish " needs " an 80 cm pole, but with longer bolts and a spirit level any old bit of pipe will do!

UNTIL THE WIND!
