Frank Williams - No more races please, were British, Ralf - I aint going nowhere, and Ferrari and McLaren both reckon they will win in Canada - big there then.

YET AGAIN I won't be doing a qualifying report - no live ITV coverage and I have a rather big University end-of-year do to go to. I will eventually do one, I promise!

It was more of a demolition derby than an F1 race, and we are lucky not to have lost Kubica in a horrible high speed accident. He is one lucky boy - its been a few years since Ive seen such a spectacular rollover..

Just been looking as a clip of the crash on You Tube (no point linking clips in here - They are being taken down fast due to copyright claims by the F1 organisations.) Its actually amazing how fast the first emergency car is on site - its 10 seconds from the shattered beamer sliding to rest until the first emergency vehicle screeches to a halt. Thats damn good going - and seeing as the racing cars were still rattling round at a fair old pace at that moment was putting themselves at some risk.

Amazingly Kubica has left hospital with nothing more than concussion and a sprained ankle!!

10 years ago I dont think he wouldnt have survived such a major accident

The Race of Heroes and Zeros, Madness in Montreal, Catastrophe in Canada – seldom has one race had so many sub-plots (I’ll try my best!)!

On a day that showcased the rollercoaster ride that is F1, the sport’s new shining star – Lewis Hamilton – took his maiden victory and is now declared as a serious, and by many accounts leading, contender for the World Championship.

The Brit, 1st on the grid, led all the way, navigating the first corner with the grace of a driver many years above his experience, in marked contrast to the nightmare beginning which team mate Fernando Alonso experienced. The Spaniard launched into another ill-conceived overtaking attempt from the green light, going off the track and rejoining in 3rd behind Heidfeld.

Hamilton sped away into the distance on his road to victory, as the reigning champion struggled to make headway in overtaking Heidfeld. Pushing too hard, Alonso went off the track twice more, on the second occasion relinquishing 3rd place to Felipe Massa in lap 18.

10 laps later, following a safety car for the retired Sutil, Robert Kubica was involved in the most horrific of accidents, barrel-rolling and ending on his side at the hairpin. The Pole has since left medical supervision in good health.

Alonso, seeing an advantage, visited the pits during the safety car, but this contravenes new rules, and he served a 10sec stop-n-go, leaving his hopes in tatters. His race never really recovered, and being overtaken by Sato for 6th compounded this fact. Alonso would finish 7th, ahead of Ralf Schumacher in 8th.

The amazing events masked Ferrari’s disastrous Canadian GP. Raikkonen was never really in it, and was strangely also passed at one point by Sato, the Finn ending 6th, whilst Massa was disqualified for leaving the pits under red lights.

Perhaps of equal amazement is the 3rd place finish of Alexander Wurz, who in his Williams managed to avoid all the events around him and taking advantage of his one stop strategy. Kovalainen also did exceptionally well, ending 4th despite being last on the grid.

Drivers’ Championship –

Hamilton now has an 8 point lead over Alonso, 48 points to 40, and Raikonnen’s fight already looks on the ropes, only 27pts, Massa is 3rd with 33.

Constructers’ Championship –

McLaren take a commanding lead with 88 points to Ferrari’s 60.

F1 Aberdeen build further still on their lead over the Stunts, but both must be aware of kreacher and his Creatures, top scoring for the 2nd race in a row and closing the gap on 2nd in the league to 18 points.

The top 6 lock on to their places, but elsewhere it’s all move.

TSU rise 1 to 7th with 113pts in Canada, and my Super25’s jump 2 to 8th with 109pts. Draconigen and ScotBorders also go up 2 places, as do the champions Speedy Devils, who are now to 16th. Kleefarr continues his yo-yo season, falling 3 places to 10th.

Vettel to replace Kubica at Indianapolis

'After Robert Kubica did not get the green light from the FIA Medical Delegate and the race's Director of Medical Services to compete in the 2007 U.S. Grand Prix, the team has nominated Sebastian Vettel to drive the second BMW Sauber F1.07 (car number 10) alongside Nick Heidfeld.

For Sebastian Vettel this will be his Formula One race debut. "Of course, I am looking forward to my first F1 race", the 19-year old German said, "but I wish it had come under different circumstances. It's never nice if a team mate can't drive because he had an accident. For me the Indianapolis Speedway is unknown territory, but I have prepared myself for this situation and tomorrow I have two 90 minute practice sessions. I know the car very well as I have quite a lot of testing miles under my belt."

The team's second test driver, Timo Glock, is also in Indianapolis and will now be nominated as the reserve driver.

Robert Kubica commented after the decision: "Naturally I'm disappointed because I felt absolutely ready to race. But I respect the decision. It was made because there is too much risk to let me race in this Grand Prix in case I have had another impact so soon after Montréal. I will go home now. I wish Sebastian all the best. It is good for him and I am pretty sure he will do a good job."

BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen: "In reviewing the accident and medical examination the doctors did not give Robert the green light to race. There will be another medical check before the race in Magny-Cours. Although the doctors see Robert in a remarkably good condition they will not let him race here mainly because of the risk of another impact. We respect the decision of the medical personnel. The team was prepared for this situation. Sebastian will receive all possible support from us and we hope for another good race here."'

So, this mean that if you have Kubica in your SupaLiga team he will not score points (obviously), but will not be replaced automatically by Vettel either. Vettel is trading at 1m on PFF1, so his very cheap for a BMW driver ;)

Official Qualifying Result

Lewis Hamilton continued his whirlwind debut season with a second consecutive pole.

Over a tenth of a second faster than team mate Alonso, who is 2nd on the grid, the Brit has a real chance of doing the North American double. Ferrari pair, Massa and Raikkonen, ended up 3rd and 4th respectively and not really threatening the McLaren's.

Perhaps the real threat to the British team may come from the all-German BMW Saubers of Heidfeld and new kid on the block Vettel. 5th and 7th on the grid, they showed promise in the first session with Heidfeld 2nd fastest, Vettel 4th. Heikki Kovalainen is 6th in the BMW sandwich, the Finn seemingly under pressure for his seat from Renault understudy Nelson Piquet Jnr., whose father was looking on from the Renault technical area.

Jarno Truilli - 8th, Mark Webber - 9th, and Giancarlo Fisichella - 10th round out the top 10.

On Brit-watch, Coulthard finished up on 11th, whilst Anthony Davidson impressed in his Super Aguri, getting into Q2, his 16th on the grid. Button continues his poor season, starting 13th on Sunday.

The sensation that is Lewis Hamilton continues, as the young Brit won his 2nd GP in Indianapolis on Sunday. Holding off Alonso going into the first corner, Hamilton was able to build up a lead going into the first pit stops.

However, in the middle period of the race back-runners stumped Hamilton’s progress, leading to Alonso attempting to take him on the straight. Launching from Lewis’ slipstream, they were Fernando was side-by-side, but the Spaniard was forced to disengage when it became clear there was no chance of a pass into the first corner. Going into the straight on the next lap, Alonso drifted to the right in a clear signal of displeasure to the team. If there was any doubt that the reigning champion is not feeling the love at McLaren, it is clear to see now. Hamilton won, Alonso was 2nd and 1.5 seconds behind.

The Ferraris of Massa and Raikkonen did not have the best of times, as Massa was third and only under pressure at times from team mate Raikkonen. The Finn, having been overtaken in the first corner by Heidfeld (who would eventually retire) and Kovalainen, had a more eventful race. Raikkonenn would, however, come in at 4th.

Kovalainen came in 5th, and Trulli, Webber, and new boy Vettel were 6th, 7th, and 8th – an achievement in a race where a lot of the action was in the midfield.

Drivers’ Championship –

Hamilton now has a full 10pt advantage on Alonso, and the Spaniard is under enormous pressure to defend his title – 58 to 48. Massa is on 39.

Constructers’ Championship –

With 106pts, McLaren look like they already have one hand on the title with Ferrari some way behind them with 71.

SupaLiga 2007 –

Norm blew the competition away this weekend, recording a league season high of 153 points. This is not only the highest score recorded in SupaLiga this season, but also the 12th highest single race score throughout Pure Fantasy F1. F1 Aberdeen now resides at 8th in PFF1 overall.

My very own team, Super 25, scored an amazing 139pt in the US, yet only jump 1 place up to 7th, displacing TSU to 8th. The top 6 again retain their respective places, kreacher, Topper, and Linhas all score over 100, and the Creatures close the gap on 2nd place Stunts to just 5pts.

The biggest climbers this race were Alex’s Armada, who sail into 12th, and the champions Devils who are now up to 14th (though on the same points total as the bangers). Both go up 2 places in the standings.

And finally, Oily gets himself off bottom to 18th, demoting Chris’ Slowhand Racing to the wooden spoon position in the process.
