Results from Qualifying of Australian GP - http://www.formula1.com/race/result/753/24.html

Fantastic pole position for Button, and for the last two years to driver in pole position as won the race, it looks positive for the Brit.

Renault achieved 2nd (Fisichella) and 3rd (Alonso) on the grid, followed by the the McLaren pair of Raikkonen (4th) and Montoya (5th). Toyota looks to have improved on previous form, with 6th and 9th on the grid. Ferrari, however, looked less than impressive, Mass pushing to hard and falling to 15th on the grid, while Schumi only in the top 10 due to Villeneuve incurring a 10 place relegation (from qualifying 9th to 19th on the grid).

The big loser of the qualifying this time was Barrichello, who was knocked out in the first session of qualifying, mainly because of Ide getting in the way(!), starting tomorrow in 16th. As a side note, one has much concern for Yuji Ide, the 2nd Super Aguri driver, who had not 1, not 2, but 3(!) seperate 'driving errors' on one lapO-Ha!

Race Result from Australian GP - http://www.formula1.com/race/result/753/8.html (post-race penalty amendment - http://www.formula1.com/race/news/4196/753.html)

Action packed racing in Melbourne, where Fernando Alonso took his second victory of the season, in a race where the safety appeared four times! Although Button held onto the lead after the first corner, following Massa's retirement, the safety came out, thus resulting in Button's wheels cooling down, from which Alonso took full advantage, overtook him, and drove off into the distance.

It was a worrying race for Button, who was on pole, but in the race suffered greatly again from tyre problems, which appeared to lose grip due to being unable to retain heat after the slow laps behind the safety car. His misery was final compounded when, with Fisichella in chase, at the final corner of the final lap, Button Honda engine blew up, falling little more than 100 metres from the finish. Button clearly has a car which can not match his undoubted talent.

In other news, driver of the day, as agreed by the ITV F1 commentary teams, was Ralf Schumacher, who having suffered a drive-through pit penalty, was able to bring an improving Toyota to third. Kimi Raikkonen finished second, but never really set the world alight. Nick Hiedfeld also had a good race, 8th on the grid - 4th in the race. Schumacher (Michael) had a horrid race, in which he was overtaken by Liuzzi of Torro Rosso, before falling foul of the exit curb of the final corner and smashing into the wall.

And finally, Scott Speed of Torro Rosso finished in 8th, what would have been the Red Bull junior team's first points finish, before later the race stewards relegated him to 11th for ignoring yellow flags. He had finished ahead of the senior Red Bull of Coulthard, and that combinded with Liuzzi's early out-performing of Schumi raises question about the power of the rev-limited v10 engines which only they are allowed (all other teams use v8).

In SupaLiga, in which the main championship has begun, warm-up season champions Sheldon's 'Speedy Devils' are in third (31 pts), TG's 'IG Racing' (What does IG stand for???) are in the lead with 36 points, with John's 'pipjack' trailing by 3 points. The Wolf's 'Wolfs bangers', a late entry to SupaLiga, shot into 4th (30 pts), having not participated in the warm-up season.

And to anyone who had Jenson in their team, I feel your pain :(.

You are lucky that Jenson's banger packed up just before the line. At one stage it was yesyesyes all my drivers high up in the points, and Montoya and Schumacher out (which means many rivals lost points) but then....
Anyway, lets see what happens in the next race...

i think he could of got over the line, but under team orders did what he did, so he dosen't drop 10 places in next race ???? which is terribly obscene

Big mistake, I reckon he is going to be in top form this year. He is always very consistant and rarely misses out on points.
