Stupidly I wiped my drive and forgot about this software.
I need to re install it again for myself and to help a friend out, for the life of me I cannot get it going again.
I have been over this thread more this than I have had hot meals.

So far I have installed the pre-packaged updateDVB DEB, updated the dependencies.
It asks before this to install kernel 5.4.2, I try to install these 3 DEBs
Code:
linux-libc-dev_5.4.2-udl-1_amd64.deb
linux-headers-5.4.2-udl_5.4.2-udl-1_amd64.deb
linux-image-5.4.2-udl_5.4.2-udl-1_amd64.deb
but it says its already installed, when I try to change to use this it only has 5.4.0 and 5.8.0 in my list.
I am running Mint 20.
Idea's welcome.
5.4.2 header not in /usr/src?

@Llew
Just testing again, before using these 3 debs it's not there.
Now installed the 3 debs again.
After using the header deb, it then shows in /usr/src despite the package manager saying its already installed.
Not sure where libc-dev and imaged debs install to.
Installed updateDVB 1-1 this appears to be percentage but however its failing to find the lock. I know 100% that the aerial is ok.
Do I need to tell the Mint to use 5.4.2?

If the debs are already installed, uname-r in Terminal should show the image as 5.4.2.
What does it show?

I wonder if it's the prepackaged updateDVB that's no good?

TBH, with a clean Mint distro I do prefer installing updateDVB by compiling it using the instructions at Bitbucket

I think it's up-to-date, I haven't used it recently. It might be worth trying that.

Do you know if it's free to compile with QT because it appears to be paid for software? It looks like a full blown app developers suite.

QT simply needed a password to access it last time I used it. Maybe it's changed now, I'll compile an updateDVB with it maybe today or tomorrow when I put some Linux on my new SSD drive.

Don't bother compiling with Qt. Just use updatelee's repo Chris Lee / v4l-updatelee without downloading the debs mentioned there, then over to bluzee / updateDVB_binaries / Downloads — Bitbucket and download just the updateDVB deb

Works well for me. The updateDVB deb pointed to in updatelee's repo wouoldn't start for me, even though I had the required libs.

Thanks Llew but I need a little more help, when you say just use updatelee's repo do you mean excute all of the code on that page apart from downloading the debs? If so i know I cannot get it all to work (as I dont know what i'm doing), I remember getting errors before.

Yes, everything there including the dependencies, which I'm sure you will have done before. I sometimes get the occasional errors during compiling it, but it seems to complete OK.

I now have something, it doesn't give a blind scan as on my previous installation a few months ago, a mystery, but it gives signal in dB which is what I require.
I did it by ensuring the firmware was in place. executed the first lines of code, installed the 3 deb packages, then the updatedvb program.
I'm trying to find the latest version updateDVB I did have a link to version 1-1 but cannot seem to find it, maybe this will allow me to "blindscan".

Perhaps it depends on the tuner used. Blindscan's OK here using the bluzee updateDVB deb with a TBS 6220. I'll check with another tuner, I have a couple of USB T/T2 sticks (if the tuner chips are compatible)

A promised check of DVB-T/T2 tuners with updateDVB (kernel 5.4.54udl+) using the PC and USB sticks I currently have.

TBS6220 - CXD2820R demod.

No Spectrum button, hence no visible channels in chart, but checking a known transmitter frequency in the chart will tune to the respective channel (cursor will show frequencies).

Signal Strength and Quality bars show the respective values, but dB quality incorrect across the channels (too low -compare with PCTV 290e stick).

Blind Scan slow, ~5 mins to scan muxes available at my location (Sandy Heath transmitter).

TBS 6220 No Spectrum Button.pngTBS 6220 SS OK low dB.pngTBS 6220 Tuning.png

PCTV Nanostick 290e CXD2820R demod.

Similar to TBS6220 no Spectrum button etc., but SQ dB strength shows what I consider the correct values across the channels.

Faster Blind Scan than the TBS 6220.

PCTV 290c Sony CXD2820R Tuning.png

August T2110-v2 USB Stick (Geniatech T230 clone). Silicon Labs S12168-A20 demod.

Has Spectrum Scan and Blindscan buttons.

Spectrum Scan chart shows correct channels for my location. As usual, clicking on a frequency tunes to the channel, and brings up the Tuning screen.
Shows Signal Quality, but weirdly no Signal Strength.

Rapid Blind Scan - a few seconds for a complete area channel listing. August T210-v2 Spectrum Scan.png Ch48 690 MHz Blindscan.png Ch48 690 MHz.png

TBS 6522 Silicon Labs Si2183 demod.

Like the August, has Spectrum Scan and Quality buttons. Spectrum scan shows my Sandy Heath frequencies, but no results in Tuning clicking on a frequency (no perceivable SQ). The tuner doesn't appear to be picking up any signals Will look into this.

As expected, Blind Scan empty.

TBS6522 Spectrum.png TBS6522 Tuning.png

RTL-SDR USB sticks will also work with updateDVB, but DVB-T only.

Tuners with Silicon Labs chipsets seem to be the best (only?) ones for being able to have Spectrum scanning together with Blindscan.

Other updateDVB versions may perform differently with various tuners; just need to find another one to try.

@Llew

Thankyou for this detailed review of different terrestrial tuners in updatedvb, it shows you are having similar issues to me with my Xbox One tv tuner which houses a Panasonic MN88472 demodulator, TDA 18250B, tuner inside in terms of things not showing / all working.
I did get blind scan to work on my previous installation somehow but how is unknown as this current installation does not let me do this.
Were you able to compile from source recently using QT and then try your tuners?

Only the v4l-updatelee repo (from the Gitlab site, not the old Bitbucket one). updateDVB was bluzee's deb, not the one pointed to on the v4l-updatelee site.
