I bought a £50 cheapie detector from maplins a few years ago, the first time we took it out we found a victorian penny and 2 1/2 pennies, not rare at all but treasure to my 9yr old son!

So I hid a £2 coin for him to "find", then forgot where I had hid it so we never found it!

Oh noooooo..
This thread is hurting me so bad ..
Sadly I can't persue this hobby of mine anymore due to MS ...
but I know the feelings ascociated with it ..and know them well.
Like most things I do ..I was very passionate about it.
Imagine a warm day in Humberside ..digging in a field..
Sun on your back ..and the calm stillness is suddenly broken as I shouted Shit!!! ..this only happens to other people ..
not me ..
My mate came rushing over ..and I dropped into his hand a Galo Belgic stater ..
Circa 42bc ..

What a rush ..to be the first to see and handle this small lumb of gold in roughly 2000 years ..
I've found quite a few coins and artifacts over the years ..but that one I'll NEVER forget..

Sorry to here of your illness vipersan and not been able to continue with your hobby :-(,
I love the stater, ive yet to find one but on two occasions I have taken guest with me and they have found them,

Ive had a bit of gold over the last 4 years since I started, this roman pendant is just going through the motions with the museum :-).

Very Nice Martin ..
Let me know what the museum concludes on it.
Amonst my other finds I have a couple of Henry pennies (compulsary finds lol)
A King John Penny..
1x Edward the confessor..
And Elizabeth I sixpence
Charles 1st Shilling
and of course many milled coins covering George II through George 6th
I once weighed in a bag of scrap nickle silver modern coins for their silver content and used the money to buy a beutiful George III crown..I had my eye on.

Had a few seals as well ..sadly I had to sell those to buy my fisher 1265x which hasnt had an outing in years ..
Perhaps I could accompany you on an outing one day ..If I ever get back over the pennines ..and was fit enough.
I have to sit down a lot these days..
It's the fatigue thing that goes with the MS.

My wedding ring has been AWOL for a few months. The last time it was seen my 4-year-old son was playing with it (I'd taken it off to do something or other and had left it on a work-surface). I *suspect* that he took it outside and dropped it in the garden and so I'm tempted to buy a detector myself. A cheap detector would be cheaper than a new ring (er..... if I'm successful in finding it).

Thank you Evan,
I will find the paper work out of what the museum concluded on it, they only offered 650 pounds and still waiting for payment nearly 3 years ago I found this now,

Ive sold most of my coins now needs must :-(, I had 147 hammered coins in my first year that's including cuts,
your more than welcome to have a day/2 with me anytime, I have lots of land to go at in a good area, just let me know pal :-),

This is all I have left of my hammered collection, but hoping to add to it in the next few months, I am just on my way out for a few hours now I will post up if I find anything :-).

I cant tbh Evan, but its a lovely ring, one day we might get lucky pal :-), ive not found much today two medieval mounts and what I think is a Charles 1st copper farthing,i will clean them up after tea and take a better look,

This is probably my rarest find, its an irish Viking hanging bowl mount.
