Not unduly common as far north as you, Pete, but by no means rare.

They abound throughout Spain, Italy etc,

Unusual and attractive looking birds with a distinctive call reminiscent of a barking dog.

Yes. my sister has had the odd one up as far as Chartres, but only rarely, never when I've been there though. :)

Seperate 80 cm dish on 28E with a Humax Freesat for SWMBO.

Did not see such unbelievable thing before.... Pike at about feet long (in the left down corner) surrounded by lots of small fish and nobody is eaten. Strange.

We have them on the Moors by our village, but after ten years we've yet to see one!

i went out yesterday and made a bird table, ive just popped out and gave it a coat of paint and attached the feeders, I just need the birds to start using it now :-).
