Gosh, those orchids are out late. I took some photos of very similar orchids (possibly same) earlier this year in the lane outside our French house. The camera is at home but I'll dig it out later and post some pics.

I found that I'd downloaded the pictures at work already so I may have posted them already. These are from February this year.

About month ago this cactus had 10 flowers, now it happens again but only got 3. I think they will open very soon (maybe even today or tonight) . I do not know why cactus is doing that, maybe it needs something from me or telling me something? :D

It's saying:

"I'm about to die. This is my best chance to propagate my genes for the future." :-rofl2

Enjoy it while they flower.

Anyone ID this little brown thing for me?? Seen on the coast in Cumbria. Its a crop of the full picture as it was too far away for the lens really.

Highlight of the weekend - wild bee orchids in a nature reserve not too far from Carnforth. Its an open secret where they are but I wont post the actual location, if anyone wants to know send me a pm.

This year there are about 15 flowering spikes plus a handful that have been nipped by slugs, rabbits etc..

And finally, can anyone identify this unusual and handsome beast?

Edit: Serendipitously, after much head scratching while we were away, I have just now established what it is.

Answer hidden here
Nine Spotted Moth

Tracked through loads of butterfly pics, could not find anything that looked close enough to be sure,
Did find this chap though, reminded me of a certain forum member, a short while ago!

It isn't a Butterfly, though: That's what threw us. We take an ident guides for Butterflies with us and the one in question was noticeable for its complete absence.

PS. I love that Squirrel Frog, BP.

Closest I could find was a Japanese variety, but did not appear to have the orange mid section.

Edit. Having seen the answer, I found a video
