Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Maybe the prey eating ritual calms them?

"" Adult dragonflies hunt on the wing using their exceptionally acute eyesight and strong, agile flight.[36] They are almost exclusively carnivorous, eating a wide variety of insects ranging from small midges and mosquitoes to butterflies, moths, damselflies, and smaller dragonflies.[49] A large prey item is subdued by being bitten on the head and is carried by the legs to a perch. Here, the wings are discarded and the prey usually ingested head first. ""

Dragonfly - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Just a theory:-doh

Regards

BTW great piccies CH.

Found in the sink. Just how many legs does an animal need?

We had one of those in the bathroom during our recent Tuscany hol.

It's a Scutigerid.

And they bite!

Personal experience?

Wife simply scooped ours up in her hands and threw it outside. I say simply; with that many legs it took a few goes to catch it.

After all this rain wandered down to my regular chanterelle spot.

chanterelle.jpg

Bit small so will leave them a few more days to bulk up.

Whilst in this area spotted a group of cup lichen ( var. Cladonia ) as there are so many types ( List of Cladonia species - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) just labeled it " unknown cup lichen "

unknown cup lichen.jpg

Bright red amongst the drab green.

Spotted this beast of an oil beetle over 3 cm long, luckily very slow moving. Think its a Meloe type but as there are numerous varieties have labeled it " unknown oil beetle "

Oddly enough, it was an Oil Beetle seen in our holiday accommodation in France some years ago that first got SWMBO and I interested in Entomology - I assumed it was a Scorpion of sorts until corrected by mine host.

Visited Barry Mill near Carnoustie in Scotland last week, I recognised the obvious crops growing in the field nearby, wheat, barley and corn on on the cob, but was puzzled by this, I suspect it is just my lack of knowledge causing this situation but can anyone shed any light on the crop?

That's Google for you!

It' s a fascinating crop, over-wintering in a pathetic stunted weed-like state, then producing in maturity those vibrant yellow flowers then setting into pods bearing those almost black seeds.

Very prolific in UK these days.

Have seen it many times flowering but have never see the final crop close up prior to harvesting. Tons of it around Southport area but am always driving not walking

Plenty of rape seed all around Sherborne and Dorchester, and some parts of Yeovil.

Really gets my hayfeaver also.
