I had a rapide a 2 door sporty version, i remember nearly buying a rally spec limited addition (would have been worth something now) but went for the new front wheel drive favorit after a couple of years every thing rubber perished. the rapide had a primer lever on the fuel pump so on a cold morning a couple of pumps,full choke(hand lever on the floor) and it started first turn.

And to think, us brits "owned" VW after the war (and if we'd been a bit more thorough with the bombing, VW would never have existed as all traces of the beetle would have been destroyed!), and we gave to to the people of Germany, when we could have held onto it and profited, talk about a major kick-yourself-in-the-backside moment...

Well considering that VW was given away in 1948, I don't think thatcher would have had a chance to have sold it off, but had we kept hold of it, she'd have sold it anyway...
