John,

Nice, they are very clear pictures presenting the transplant of the head onto the body with surgical precision. Did you use a bench drill for accuracy with the holes or was it a "hand job" ?
John is good at 'Hand Jobs' MB!

Notice i did my nails before the shoot ?.
Twas a pillar drill job matey.

John,

I did notice the nails, very well manicured. A pillar/bench drill is a very useful tool for this modding caper

So I've bought it, am I crazy ?! If I eventually get something from 18ghz then it will be worth it , now to find a 1.2m dish is this big enough here in the south east ?
Not sure how the Gilat performs on a sub-1.2M offset (the guys here with the Gilat might know), but tne Newsnet Ka feeds are easily receivable by me with my Norsat or Hughes LNB on a Triax 1.0M offset dish, and often usefully on a Triax TD88 when the weather permits, or the various OB feeds are receivable at a decent level.

So I actually could get something without the mod on my spare 1m dish sitting in the garden ?
It's worth a try. You might find it easier to align the LNB on the dish on 0.8W. There are a couple of big signals there, see my original link Ka with Prodelin/Viasat 1.2m Band B.

John,

but it doesn't do much for the death metal rocker image

I guess it will be OK much of the time but some of the OB feeds seem to be ~5-7dB down on the newsroom at times. The attached was using an unmodified Gilat, probably with a sub-optimal set-up.

Not very often you see an empty Newsnet frequency slot usually at the side of it's data/comms freq buddy . It was noticed late last night that the usual newsroom static camera shot was replaced by a caption stating news desk information only.

Indeed. It did disappear for a short while once before (see post #176/177).

Yep, some strange Ka conditions going on this morning Llew as well across the whole band. The usually off the scale beacon ? at the higher end of the band had totally disappeared at one stage leaving the whole spread of the band empty - at least with me anyway in North Notts. The grab shows the usually high level beacon just starting to re-appear.

Very odd. Keep an eye on the band John, I'll be back to check a bit later.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Whilst there is a chance the signal has been attenuated by atmospheric conditions, I would suspect the downlink has been deliberately attenuated to beam content to a specific client, which might also include steering the Ka band antenna to a particular coordinate on the planet.

Seems OK here but it's a few hours on although 18557 is lowish at 10.4dB SNR. You aren't using some dodgy, butchered, LNB, are you? Can you see the TP noise spectrum? If so , that will tell you if it is ITN or (you or beam_moved) - I hope that makes sense. I see about 1dB TP noise.

The cluster of <1Ms/s GS signals around 18411H have disappeared but the carrier is still on 18405H. I can see a very low level signal on 18410V which is about 3MHz wide.

The band has come here but not up to normal levels. On my 1.2 Gibby Newsnet is only around 7.5dB. It's next door neighbor comms freq is up to about it's normal level. Took the dodgy test lnb off the 2.2 because it's been chucking it down for hours here and didn't want to trust the temp waterproofing lol. It's too much of a faff with it on the 2.2, will wait till the weather dries out a bit and then try the 'Frank' on the 1.2 Gibby at focus.
* That grab on #472 was off the Gibby Norsat PLL lnb and not the creation 'Frank' (s-band Grahams lnb creation)

Newsnet down somewhat here too, only manages ~7dB, the OB feed 5.6db and unlockable. Hughes LNB on the Triax 1.0. Slight cloud cover.

At least the feeds are up again.
