Dear Stephan94,
when the OCTAGON SF8008 4K UHD E2 DVB-S2X will be available could you test the tuner sensitivity in comparison to the Octagon sx88?

Thanks

I have to oppurtunity to make a swap..... ciao

Blind Scan guide for H.265 HEVC HD satellite receivers such as the Octagon SX88+ & the Edision primo IP S2,

Blind Scan
Delete dead transponders on the satellite you are about to Blind Scan
Now Blind Scan the Satellite for example Eutelsat 10A @ 10 east
The Blind Scan will pick up all transponders from 10 east & 9 east,

So I do a FTA TV only Blind Scan
You can then view the FTA TV channels,
Switch the receiver to standby for 20 sec
Now Manual Scan for encrypted transponders in the database,
Tick the transponders not scanned in the FTA mode,
Now add the code if known for the other transponders to view,
Save your channel list & other data to a USB stick,

The data collected from the SX88+ can also be used on the Edision primo as the channel lists on these receivers is the same format,
Then you can have a channel list starting at 53 east to 34.5 west in sequence as I have on the SX88+,
The Edision primo came with Astra 19.2 east 1st followed by Hotbird 13 east then the rest of the satellites,
I was not keen on this so was able to change this using the SX88+ Channel List.

I assume the blindscan of SX88 does not allow the user to set the frequency range manually, otherwise someone who will blindscan 10E would not have the 9E frequencies as well, as they are in a different range!

No they will have all active frequencies in the 9 east / 10 east part of the Sky,
10 east 10700 to 11700
9 east 11700 to 12500
10 east 12500 to 12750

As the SX88+ cannot be programmed by the operator you will get all of the Ku band frequencies when your dish is aimed at 10 east you get all the transponders from 10 east + most of the transponders from 9 east as they are much stronger,

When your dish is aimed at 9 east you will only get the strongest transponders from 10 east + all the transponders from 9 east.

I found the same when I rescanned the 9E & 10E sats a couple of days ago with the "fag packet" Freesat 7HD - seems to me that with that Rx, and probably the SX88+/Primo S2, the only thing might be to manually review the recorded channel lists for both sats and then delete the transponders for ones on "the other sat"

An SX88+ has now been ordered to replace the Edision (which has gone back), and so I'm going to ask a similar question to what I did for the latter a few days ago (but got no response):

Having played with the SX88, in the Installation menu where you set up the LNB, DiSeqC and motor for a particular sat, it seems to allow you to enter up both DiSeqC 1.0/1.1 AND USALS motor settings . So does that mean that it can drive a motor and transmit a DiSeqC signal to switch ports on a Switch , and if so, which works/works best - Rx-> Switch -> Motor OR Rx-> Motor-> Switch?

I believe that some Rx's can do that, and I wondering if the SX88+ can also do that?

I just switched off the motor on 10 east on my SX88+ & all the other motorised positions still work with my DiSEqC 1.3 USALS motor so in theory what you propose will be possible by just selecting DiSEqC 1.0 on one of the ports A,B,C or D for an additional antenna + a 2 way DiSEqC switch.

Many thanks but still not sure what your config is or would be (Rx-> Switch -> Motor OR Rx-> Motor-> Switch)?

I have an EMP 2-way switch of a type (S2_1PCN-W1) that I know will pass on DiSEqC 1.1 & 1.2 (& hopefully also 1.3/USALS) commands, and that would be at the Rx end of various cables running down the garden, as well as a Opticum 10-1 switch (which doesn't pass on the commands), and a cable TD88/Superior Dark Motor on one of the poles (and ignoring the TD110 which is on its own cable).

I'd like to use the EMP switch to switch between the 2 cables to the TD88 and the Opticum, and then set up the 10 i/ps to the Opticum with cables from the fixed dishes (now reinstalled but not aligned, after the "potenial neighbour" issues a few months ago!) - thus the EMP switch would select either the motor and pass on 1.3/USALS commands to it, or the Opticum under DiSEqC 1.0 and then pass the DiSEqC 1.1 commands to itto select the appropriate fixed dish LNB - obviously the USALS would be switched off in the Rx for those LNBs.

Does that make sense/seem viable?

No

I went away from fixed dishes & 4 way DiSEqC switches a long while ago nothing in my opinion beats 2 motorised dishes :) well maybe 3

There's a good (at least to me) reason for having a mix of motorised and fixed dishes - especially for the SX88+ which is destined for the lounge where I want to be able to switch between the main sats quickly/easily, and thus the fixed dishes & Opticum (but with the backstop of the motorised TD88 via the the EMP switch). OTOH, in the "bedroom/office", the SX88 and others will be used for feed hunting/investigation and the like using (mainly) the motorised TD110.

Thus (at least to me, again), I would welcome any info on the combo mentioned in Post #293.

Update: now ditched the DiSEqC switch idea and going to use a simple coax relay (found a Spaun SAR 12F in the spares pile, and it has a lot lower attenuation than a switch!) when used with a remotely controlled 12V relay to switch between the Opticum/fixed dishes and the steerable TD88 - just waiting for the remote-control relay to arrive, and easily supplied with 12V as there are 8A psus in both the lounge and bedroom office AV stacks

Anyone found firmware version 1.04.74 for the SX88plus yet? When I try updating via the internet nothing happened as the URL is not filled in.

Octagon 's policy has changed, everything is now done via the internet.
Some people have had problems with version 1.04.74 with the DISEqC for the motor.

Update 1.04.74 is listed for the older SX88, but no current updates are listed for the SX88+.

Ref 1.04.074 - have you any information on what the DiSEqC motor issues might be - and are they for the SX88 &/or the SX88+?

Thanks everyone. I understand 1.04.74 has solved a problem with Eutelsat9B @9E. So I was hoping for an update for my SX88+.
I am currently using firmware 1.04.72. If I try doing a firmware update via the internet nothing happens. Do I need to put a web address in that box for it to work? If so what?

Any chance that you can confirm the actual latest working f/w version for the SX88+ and where it can be found?
