I suspect you'll be pleasantly surprised and find much of it intuitive.

Here's hoping.
As long as I don't need to learn a foreign language just to get it going

Everyone can look forward to lots of silly questions :unsure
Thanks everyone who advised me on this.

A couple of questions to be going on with ?

(1) Will the SX88+ come with an up to date satellite & transponder database ?

(2) Rather than throw out the old Technomate 7102HD which still functions fine can I connect both it & the new SX88+ to the motorised dish & use both to drive the motor ?
I found these two threads from back in 2012 & 2014 which suggest I can ?

The simplest way to do this is with a "Smart Priority Switch"("SPS") such as one of these Goobay 51445 SAT Priority Switch: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics which you connect in the cables from each receiver to the Geobox - in your case, whichever receiver is "ON" will take control of that and thus the motor.
I use several in the system - mainly to switch control of the dishes & LNBs down the garden between the receivers in the lounge and those in the "bedroom office"

Also, a bit more/different advice in this and similar threads

No the SX88+ will not come with the latest satellite & transponder database,
So you will need to load one of these:-
Go to thread #34 Just Sharing This - Ch List for OCTAGON SX88+ H.265 HEVC HD Multistream

A guide on how to do it is here:-

@Willliam-1

I must admit to being confused myself because, whilst those links do lead to lists of the channels, there are no attached ZIP or other compressed format files containing the actual lists to be loaded onto the receivers via USB - unlike your channel lists for the TM5402, etc.

Look again all channel lists are now hidden I think the recent upgrade has caused this ?

Sorry Tony until Chis fixes this all you can do is load the latest satellite & transponder data manually,

This will take you several hours until you can load my lists.

I presume that you should have only one receiver powered on at one time ?
Silly question but what happens if both receivers are powered on at the same time ? Can you do damage ?

SX88+ wont be here until next Tuesday so he may have it fixed by then ?
I suppose a blind scan would bring them in anyway ?

1 - You won't do any "damage" to either receiver if both are powered ON - done that "in error" a number of times, with no damage!
2 - The receiver connected to the Master socket on the SPS has priority, and that connected to the Slave socket cannot override the Master
3 - OTOH, not absolutely sure what happens whereby the Master receiver is switched OFF (or in Standby) with the Slave receiver is switched ON and thus has control of the motor/LNB(s), but the Master is then switched ON?

Just checked out No 3 above - if the Slave receiver is already ON and has control of the SPS, and thus the motor/LNB, then switching the Master ON has no effect and the Slave continues to have control of the motor/LNB.

The insertion loss with the auto switch seems to be about 4db while with the simple A-B switch its between 1/2db loss.
Could make the difference when trying to lock a weak signal ?
