Spent a good hour in the loft trying to find an old graphics card ..
I really thought I'd once owned a Voodoo card ..
If I ever did ...(and I'm now having doubts) ...it's long gone..
The best I could pull out from under the eaves was a Creative labs Banshee 3D blaster..
Sadly PCI and not AGP..
Still a nice card in its day ....and totally compliant with 95 and 98

Want to try Android on a PC?

I'm thinking of trying it on the "portable desktop" = multiboot with Linux and WinXP

Look what I've dug out ..
Dont think I'll be building a 486 any time soon ..but I suspect it still works after all this time lying in a cupboard..
I seem to remember I briefly had a 386 working as well ..but memory is a fickle thing ..and it was so long ago .

This was the top speed 100mhz overdrive if I'm remembering correctly ..
the 66mhz version is still being listed on fleabay around £25 ..
People do seem to love retro..

Another blast from the past ..
I can't believe I still have this ..and the driver disc ..
So far not found the external VGA patch through loop cable ..
https://www.digitalconnection.com/products/video/xcard.asp
I remember it wasn't cheap at the time but did make one helluva difference to crappy low res ..slow video playback ..
Played mpg4 natively in hardware ...and took the load off the cpu..
It may well end up in Chameleon ..assuming it still functions..
Did any of you guys ever own one ?
Xcard.jpg

cant remember if it worked with win95 ..but certainly 98SE

had digital audio out ..as well as TV out

So ..if anyone is mad enough to want to try win95 and hasn't got access to a floppy etc ..
Ive created a bootable ISO of win95B os2 ...
(was never available as a CD ..only as a preinstalled OEM OS)
the last generation of 95 ..and this claims to support USB with an addon ..
Our survey says ..na ahhh..
I think this is because of the mobos or USB cards ..which are of a later generation ..
However after much searching I found an unofficial driver installation..which does run those ports in usb 1.0 mode ..
Obviously only for usb drives ..not peripheral devices such as mice and keyboards ..
So the ISO contains the Win95 setup ..a DOS folder which contains Fdisk and Format etc ...(dos utils needed) ...
I've also included Internet explorer 5.5 as an upgrade ..
This was the last version to run on Win95 ..and makes google accessible in HTTP ..not HTTPS ..
If you want this iso image..here is the link to my dropbox..
You will need an OEM key ..but they are all over the net ...
Dropbox - Win95Bos2.iso
I dont want to post one on a public forum ...not that I personally would be worried ..but keys of any form are against forum rules..
Enjoy

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

I can still recite the one that my first Olivetti had, 29295-OEM-0005887-20313 (hopefully no issues with posting that, it's my genuine key that is 21 years old now and I doubt M$ really care about such old OSes!!!), dunno where the OEM cert. & book for it went though, but it works on the Windows95 "With USB Support" CD that I have in my drawer of many things, the original disc was from before USB was even known about... :)

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Somehow I doubt that - they have "better things to do" than chase Win95/98 product code release "perpetrators" :D

Doubt if you could activate it.
Not that I, personally, am about to try - I'll leave all that stuff to VS and davem as I have enough other things to deal with:D

I rather think back then activation was more of a register by snail mail thing ..
Back in the day you were either rich or fortunate to have internet access ...beyond a dial up modem ..and early home adopters probably ..not even that..
lol
..anyone remember compuserve ??
the early interweb doohicky ..pre-dates MSN or Netscape ..
AOL was around back then I think..

..and Usenet still going strong ...the internets ancient backbone...

Strangly enough only last week my son asked me when we got our Compuserve connection because he remembers using it for a project at junior school and he is 33 now

AOL? "A? O HELL!" was a better description (but apparently people do still us it)!

I still know of someone using it but he is a technoluddite, but does mange an email now and then
