This mornings scan of 70.0 West - Vertical signals are the strongest with me here in Central UK.
I'm tempted to get out my old Echostar LT8700 and see if it will see anything analogue

If it's got a 70MHz loop, I still have my switchable filter to dig the last bit out of the sparklies. It's not the prettiest thing but it used to work.

Forgot how big these old school receivers were - they are BIG & heavy.
This was last used for 2.4GHz FTA Helicopter downlink viewing many moons ago

Proper receivers in their day. For build quality they kick the shít outta these two bob Chinese junk boxes.

DX Man dreams...
Echostar return to manufacturing satellite receivers with 36V, skew control, pulse control, twin tuner S2X, up to 32APSK modulation, 4:2:2 included, auto Poop, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs.
DX Man wakes up and sees a pile of Chinese junk.

Reception from 70.0 West PAL signals
Just like the good old days - Fx: 3789 V. Analogue PAL from North Nottinghamshire, Central UK.
2.2 mtr 'Elite Antennas' PF. Motorised Pol/Skew & scalar. Norsat lnb. Echostar LT8700 Rx.
** Ignore the 'THOR/INTELSAT' sat reference from the rx, this was the last sat it was looking at many moons ago.
Signal is weak as is to be expected here in the UK

A lot of 'Threshold Extension' in use to get reasonable pictures.

Extreme Ultra dx'ing, astonishing catches, sniffing like Pinocchio.
I seriously doubt any other UK DX Men will get pics.

Well done.

My Satellite Setup
OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Custom built PC
My Location
Deep in the Boonies in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
That's the wrong beam for 70W, that satellite is for Latin America and Brazil, nothing for North America on "C" band as noted in lyingsat.

And a footprint map off of satbeams, shows "Ku" band only for NA

So you may be receiving the beam for Brazil, now that's some DX'ing..

Nice one - john -

I would have liked to have had a go at this sat also - using the 3m Prodelin ..... as in theory i should be able to see 70 West from here .... but i moved the setup across the yard a couple of weeks ago ... for viewing low elevation Eastern sat.s ... and cant see beyond 30 west with it currently ... :-(
