Thanks for your reply.

I used to try the VPN route before I discovered SmartDNS but could never get it working properly and it was slow when it did work.

I might try an alternative SmartDNS but Over Play was working fine until this morning :-(

If you're using overplay, you need to change to another pair of servers. PM me and I'll tell you which one.

Other than overplay's smartdns, I recommend purevpn. They have very fast servers and i can pretty much get the same speed as my ISP. They also have dedicated IP addresses, so even stuff like interactive and sky store will work. You can configure their vpn on a regular router - no need for dd-wrt. At least, it works on my d-link; very easy to set up.

overplay is the only smartdns service that works with sky on demand...as far as i know
I have been using Overplay SmartDNS for well over a year with all downloads completing successfully. At one point it stopped working (when Sky changed something) but Overplay support sorted it out quickly. It should also be noted that not all their UK servers work with Sky in my experience.

The problems I do have is that the new Sky search normally doesn't work. It complains about the connection and reverts to the old search. Also some of the new features such as "Suggestions" do not work. It displays a message saying to connect to a broadband router.

The main problem however is speed. Downloads which take 5 minutes in the UK (and which are available to watch within 30 seconds) may take the best part of a day to complete. I had put this down to my slow internet connection, but I have now upgraded to an LTE service offering speeds as good as the ADSL I use in the UK but the downloads are just as slow.

The DNS settings are configured in the Sky box (not in my router). If anyone has any suggestions as to how to speed this up I would be very happy.

The download speed is from 7 to 15 mbs with a latency of around 80ms.

Thx.

Overplay have had a major upgrade yesterday which resulted in a temporary outage. As usual, their support has worked rapidly to resolve the issue and Sky Demand is now working again.

Well done Overplay for correcting their error so quickly.

I've noticed Overplay's SmartDNS has been a bit intermittent over the past couple of weeks when using my iPad and a Samsung DVD player for UK services. Hope this upgrade fixes that. Problems seemed to coincide with the time when I went for a 12 month subscription... While I was talking out one month at a time it was fine.

I can confirm Sky's catch up services are no longer working for me using Overplay SmartDNS after their "upgrade". They also state Sky boxes are not officially supported on their site, which is worrying. I have sent them a support ticket to see if it can be fixed for me too.

This is a real pain since having lost most Sky channels after 2A closed down I was relying on the catch up service!!

Same issues here sent the pics overplay required , just awaiting a reply. I guess if its not sorted they could lose customers.

Probably Sky knocking out some of the data centres used by expats again.

Mine are working. Reboot Sky box and router - even if SmartDNS is configured directly in Sky box. Then visit Overplay page to initialise ip address.

I've tried using both but no luck. My ticket with Overplay has been passed to the team that are handling this Sky problem.

As soon as BT stop pissing about with my cabinet in the UK (delayed by two years so far) I'll get fibre and route my Sky box through that but until then I need to rely on these providers.

@BLUEPLATINUM, what firmware version are you using in your Sky box? Mine has updated to the latest one R010.070.58.17P.

Sorry that you are still having problems. They will probably sort it out pretty quickly. They have a good support team.

Guys, it's all my fault. For the past year or so I've been taking the service a month or three at a time, thinking it was too good to last. Then I take out a 12 month subscription and a few days later it goes down...
