Well, most of what you need is here now (and in the other F3 threads) owing to the efforts of pioneers like Costactc, Vipersan and my very good self.

I'm sure Roland will be a great help to you as it's all very fresh in his mind!

That's a job for me later as little one is now watching his cartoons, and will scream house down if I touch anything.

Sorted - Again, pretty obvious when you know how.

Damn fine Rx all round.

Well worth the beans.

Still not sure, though, whether to go for a High-Speed 16GB USB stick or a 120GB Portable HDD.

Yep it is. The manual could do with being the size of the Humax Foxsat-HDR to explain all the basics though.
I'm going to setup my spare 80GB portable HDD to try out the PVR stuff then will probably end up getting a bigger one when I've got the cash.

I was actually surprised when I hooked up the Portable HDD that it actually works without having to power it through the mains like I have to do when I hook it up to laptop.

Can recordings be made when the box is off e.g the box boots up and records or does it need to be left on for recordings to be made?

Vipersan did an HDD test a couple of days ago and also reported no issues with power.

Very glad to have confirmation .............. I think I'd prefer a Portable HDD if funds permit (When I get my next Pension payment!).

I'll give it a go tonight, don't want to cut off cartoons that I'm recording for little one if it doesn't work.

SD is excellent ............ do make sure you've got the Video ouptut (Method and Resolution) set appropriately: I played with my settings and some are indeed pants.

But if you select YUV and 1080i/50 all looks brill.

I've got mine set to 180p 60 YUV and SD is excellent, some channels aren't 16:9 though.

I was comparing mine yesterday on ITV4, flicking between the Pace Sky stb and the F3, I couldn't see much difference in quality but the Pace definitely had more contrast which gave a slighter better display. Get too close and they both looks shite lol

My monoblock arrived today so that's another job to sort out now I've found out how to wire a monoblock into a diseqc switch, hopefully after next Sunday I'll have 28/23.5/19.2 and the 1.2Gib on a four way switch.

My only memory stick isn't fast enough for the F3 so I'm also thinking about getting a portable drive, any recommendations on brands/models? Only real criteria is it must be quiet.

If you look back on this fast-growing Thread, I have the same issue with my USB Stick.

120GB 2.5" Portable HDDs (Virtually Silent) can be had for about £30 and a High-Speed 16GB USB Stick for about £13.

As for Contrast, go to System Setup >> Display Setting and have a tinker.

Yey I don't have to leave the Skybox on just to Record, it auto comes on, don't know if it is Recording as I'm currently watching The Big Bang Theory on the HDD of my Foxsat-HDR.
