Lidl tools time again from Sunday 25 June for those interested: Terrific Tools from Sunday, 25.06. at Lidl UK
- Welding stuff: Inverter Welder, Flux cored welding wire, welding magent, & Welding Helmet, set of 3 welding locking pliars (one .looks very "Mole -like")
- 10W cordless battery-powered LED Worklight for £9.99 - looks pretty much the same, apart from the paint colour and the price, to the the yellow one that I bought from Amazon for £19.99 a couple of months ago (and which works quite well) !!!

LIDL tools time again on Sunday 9th July (happens a lot at this time of year!) and there are quite a few repeat and new items which could be very useful from my own experience:
- 4 Tier Shelving Unit at £24.99 or 2 for £40 (and remember my shelving bolting mod, as per an earlier post in this thread!)
- Pack of assorted lengths of Heat Shrink Tubing at £3.99 (had several of these boxes over time - very useful)
- T-Handle Hex / Star Key Set 8 Piece Set at £5.99 a set (Last year I bought a larger combined set of both, the only apparent differences being that that came in a plastic case, and the Hex keys were ball-ended, but I suspect something like that will be available later on;. I've found that lot very useful in the last few months as the T-handles are a lot easier to use than the normal "L" shaped ones)

There's a whole more power and hand tools as well - so well worth a look :)

Not LIDL this time but Machine Mart as they seem to be running a rolling programme of "VAT Free", AKA 20% discount, offers on various sections of their product areas.

For example, about 3 weeks ago I bought 2 relatively cheap tool cabinets at the 20% discount rate and then MM offered the same discount on 7-8 other product areas, but finally, over the weekend, again offered some of those tool cabinets 20% off, and now some Stoves are again offered at 20% off - as they did a week or two ago!

Therefore if you saw something you want, but missed the relevant 1-3 day discount period, be patient and it might soon be available again at the lower price!

NB: I get the impression that these discounts are being offered where they are somewhat overstocked as not everything in a particular product range is offered at 20% off.

LIDL from Sunday 23 July: FWIW, in the Car Care section, the Wet & Dry vacuum is back, as is that Walther Torque Wrench - albeit that I think they are more expensive than before.

FWIW, I've got one of those vacs and it works very well, albeit rather noisily, and, I think, is good value for the money.

FWIW, I bought a belt sander from Lidl a few years back, still going strong today. think it was supposed to be Lidl branded BOSCH, cost me £15.
OTOH, eBay has been a good source of tools, I got a BNOS Hitachi orbital sander from there over a decade ago, still throbbing on today, cost me £35.

With a few exceptions, most LIDL Parkside mains/battery tools are both good value and reliable and I have quite a few (but there are exceptions, including a battery jigsaw, which may be reliable but are not very precise due to poor construction tolerances) - otherwise I would not draw attention to them here.

ebay-sourced items are generally OK, but I am wary of the ability, or not, to get suppliers to abide by any "promised"/written warrantee conditions, whereas LIDL electrical/battery tools now generally come with a 3 yr warrantee (unless they are very cheap - probably <£10-£15). LIDL warrantee processes are tortuous (to say the least!) but can be enforced (and I have) as long as you keep very good proof of where & when a tool was purchased, and other details such as EAN numbers, serial nos, and so on - and thus, nowadays, I am very careful to do that (and more, e.g. photos of as-received products, receipts, etc.).

Nevertheless, one has to be aware that eBay (and "Amazon Marketplace"!) sellers "come and go" with frightening regularity, and so "Caveat Emptor" very much applies! And also, that one can sometimes, and I have, searched, for, and found, the same items at established UK business sellers and at lower prices, and then bought from them.

OTOH, I had to buy a couple of Parkside tools from ebay sellers as they were not then currently available from LIDL stores, and I am far less confident of getting LIDL warrantee service on those. In addition, those tools were more expensive than would have been the case had I been able to get them direct from LIDL, probably because quite a few ebay sellers buy lots of them from LIDL and then resell them "as new" at a profit later on when LIDL doesn't have them on offer.

I've also got a number of Bosch tools, both from the Professional and the DIY Consumer ranges - haven't had any major problems with the former, but certainly have had with Consumer range garden tools! Again, nowadays, I keep careful records of what and when I buy their stuff, and certainly make sure I use any 14 (or 30 from Amazon) day return periods if needed - and then make sure I quickly register them with the Bosch online registration system to get any relevant extended warrantee cover. In that respect, I'm more likely to buy those from Amazon for the extended return periods and the, if needed, complaints route that (generally!) then comes with that source!

One should also keep an eye on ALDI "Special Buys" stuff as it is often similar (or identical but for the brandname - often "Ferrex") to what LIDL "specials" are, but with the advantage (to people who don't live near their stores), that many items can be bought online and then delivered to you by courier - prices are about the same as LIDL, but are sometimes lower for clearance purposes, and items are often advertised for quite long periods (but may then be "out of stock" if you wait too long!).

Final (I hope) PS: Before buying a tool from anywhere, it's generally worth searching on YouTube for "unboxing" and testing videos of that item, as those can give you a reasonably good idea of what you would be getting and whether it would suitable for your needs - especially w.r.t. items that are "buy now, or never" offers - as that could save both the cash and disappointment of buying an unsuitable item.

Ref my post#545 and Machine Mart tool cabinets, a couple more comments:
- I was somewhat incorrect in saying "VAT free" as, whilst the rolling discount programme seems to be continuing, the actual % discount seems to vary quite a lot, sometimes as little as 5-7%;
- Having been watching for bargains on tool cabinets, trolleys, carts and toolboxes for some time, I've found that there are quite a lot of relative (compared with Machine Mart anyway!) "bargains" on eBay UK, especially for "used" items that you can collect yourself. OTOH, a new trolly or cart will often be supplied as a kit that you have to assemble yourself.

Thursday again, so LIDL have some new DIY stuff from Sun 30th under the heading "12V DIY" (although it's not actually all "12V"!), which could be useful to anyone who already has some 12V kit using their "PARKSIDE X 12V Team" batteries & chargers:
- Many of the "same" 12V tools as previously, but also including one or two that I've not seen before, notably a Cordless Multipurpose Tool for use with various blades, a Cordless Rachet with a 3/8th square drive for use with the appropriate 3/8", & some 1/2" (adaptor supplied), sockets, a Cordless Planer and a Cordless Pruning Saw.
- Several mains-driven tools like a Heat Gun, the Wet & Dry Vaccuum, a Steam Wallpaper Stripper, and a Tabletop/ Pillar drill (NB, this is the "change the belt position on the pullies" type to change the speed, and not an electronic speed control, type - but they also sell those at times, so maybe later on this year? )
- Quite a few DIY accessories like drill bits, multitool sanding sheets, etc.

As is often the case, you can get a 20% discount on the 12V tools by using the "Lidl Plus" App on your phone.

LIDL: the link to a LIDL website page in post #550 does not now work but you can still access the 12V tools available from Sunday 30th July by following the on-screen link to "Middle of LIDL and then "Job Done" / "Cordless Tools".

OTOH, the latest Middle of LIDL promo email came in yesterday but there don't seem to any further new tools etc., available from the following Sunday (6th August).

I had a need to bend 8x1mm INOX pipe. Found out that it is not so easy, I would say, impossible to do it by bare hands. So, made a small pipe bender. If proper rollers are used, it will be possible to bend 6-14mm pipes, copper of INOX.

I'm in the middle of taking the fenders off, (thus the strap on the rear fender) you need to take the wheels out of the way to do so, a big problem I have run into is the fact that they used square nuts on the bolts and screws, I can't find a hardware store near by that sells 4 point (or 8 point) socket sets, I have found some on-line but don't recognize the manufacture, I like name brand stuff as far as tools go.

I was refurbishing an old workbench that had square headed bolts, i used a 1/2 inch extension from a socket set the wrong way round to undo them.
