and they refer to it as a 'professional' card ..
Not sure they realise that professional means more than C and Ku ...
I do not condone the manufacturer, but somehow it's not his fault that is placed in an area where transmissions in 16 and 32 APSK modulations, with Multistream or in Ka band are very rare on Asian satellites.I remember that in 2011, when the TBS6925 card was launched, asking us,on beta-testers, to tell him transponders with such modulation on European satellites.Just recently, for TBS6983, he asked me to send a file with Continous stream.Probably,as in many cases, geography, besides other factors, play a major role in the development of these cards?!
To shorten, I think European contribution to the development of these cards was decisive, but the most important was CrazyCat,with his application-Crazyscan,which has made famous TBS6925/5925 card among enthusiasts. The same will happen with the new card if CrazyCat will develop an application that for the old card.Because TBS6983 has big
potentialities hardware that only a software as it can put in value.
Here's summary a few strong points of the new card:
Unlike 6925, the tuner TBS6983 is extremely sensitive.
With the two tuners you can receive different transponders at the same time.Or with the tuner A,for example you can watch a program, and with the tuner B,you can use, for instance-TSAnalyser or Spectr.
Yet one of the major novelties of TBS6983 card is the fact that it has the support of symbol rates from 1 to 45 Msps. Now,we can find transponders with symbol rate under 200 Msps, but after the first pleasant surprises,we will want something more than to the card.
The manufacturer has designed this card and a few tools, but their development requires more specialized brain. One of these is CrazyCat,who made so much for our community as well as the manufecturer of the card.
To draw a brief conclusion, I would say that software/applications for TBS6983 is work in progress.Only CrazyCat knows how long it took that to worked out his Crazyscan for TBS6925 card.I think that for a TBS6983, he have more hassle to develop this application.
But it is better to wait for the application has come up,if he is going to do,and only then to be skeptical,if necessary. But I think it will not be the case. But even if we use 6983 card with the current tools, of manufacturer,TBS6983 has, besides the many things, better
fiabilité than 6925.It is too early to be against something that is not yet fully developed.
I am more reserved towards the professional term applied to this card, just like you, but not because he knows to receive a band or another, or who knows how to make, but because the price of this card is 250$ .
It is performing compared to other card dvb-s2 but from a specialized card, how is Dektec,it is addressed to ordinary consumer. As in many other fields, the Chinese manufacturer has brought new technologies to a commercial level that we can support as regular buyer.
As a comparison, for a card dedicated to professionals, such as DekTec DTA-2137, cost over 1,000 euros, and with their applications, reaching up to 2000 euros. It is enough only this component to put us on guard if the product is for professionals or not.At the price of 250 $,don't expect from 6983(or any tbs)card who knows what technological miracle, instead it gives us what most enthusiasts wanted for many years:receptions of various kinds made without being specialized,I mean professional!
