Sky will have sent updates to his card for these new channels, but he will have his updates turned off in his newcs xml so that he can use the white card in his linux box, He needs to put the white card into the original sky box, get the updates and then put it back in his linux box,

Been following this thread with much interest since the start - and thanks to B16MCC for kicking it off and sharing his findings with us. I'm not a total newbie in this area but I can't claim to be an expert on all the details of newcs etc..Some parallels with newcamd/betad come to mind. However some naive questions do arise as well. Given that newcs 1.66 is now showing some promise with the new white cards why does anyone need to combine it with cccam which has a c/s feature all of it's own ?. Whats wrong with newcs and mgcamd for example ?. In addition I'm not clear in my own mind why a total block of emms is needed. Finally has anyone considered that the current situation could change when all of the blue cards have been replaced ?. I think I shall be dusting off the digibox soon and re-tutoring the inmates in its peculiar ways. Regards to all.

Hi there. I've got to agree with everything you say. Firstly, there's no reason why you can't use any other client software that can connect to newCS, the only reason people use CCcam is because of its popularity and its probably what they've been using for ages.

This method is a quick fix in my opinion , its widely expected the card entitlements will not update and therefore this is not a final arrangement. Things could change again ofcourse when 961 is switched off !
Lastly, I guess everyone is waiting to see if Uvadi team reply to NewCS team with a new version of CCcam. NewCS came to fore once more when sly Italia went NDS3, it didn't take long before Uvadi retorted and again removed the need for NewCS. I for one would like to see this as I'd much rather just run the one softcam/server package.

Thanks B16MCC for that insight. I was not aware of the doubts about the ability of software to update the new white cards. Caution must rule of course especially after the reports of card burn-outs in Italy. It must have been a year or more before I took the plunge with newcamd and then not with my main sub card !.

Sly cannot be switching off till at least the end of september, I have just received two of my multiroom cards, they say they will post the other two during september.

Thats right the roll out will be complete mid September, but most of the blue cards will start to stop working in the 2nd week in August unless they are still allowing them to update which i don't think they will.

Really clever timing for Sky isn't it, changing cards over the summer season.

We are going on holiday in a few weeks time, no signs of cards yet.

I've already got visions of coming back to all my scheduled recordings over 3 weeks being stuck with some daft message on the screen saying , "Please switch to the new card" :-(

Chaps, we have no way of knowing when the old cards will go off, nor when you'll get your new one. I don't have mine at home either yet. This thread was started to investigate how we might use the new card in the dreambox, lets keep it as a tech. thread please and not hijack it with speculation and opinion. Cheers guys.

I'm getting increasingly scared about frying the chip on my new white card. After two days of having the card in my DM500s, I reinserted it into the official receiver and first got a message about "problems with smartcard" before it finally accepted it.

Someone's suggested changing 357mhz to 600mhz.

I'd be grateful if others could share their experience, please.

I'm trying to make a post asking about the dangers of frying the chip on my new white card but for some reason it's not working.

I'll insert my xml as code this time!

I had my white card in my DM500s for two days solid and when I put it back into the orginal receiver I first got a message about problems with my viewing card before I eventually got it working again.

Could you please share your experience with the new white card? Someone suggested changing 357mhz to 600mhz.

Secondly, you're running a config for a Dreambox with 2 readers, but of course your DM500 only has 1 internal reader. I'm pretty sure the single reader boxes address them as /dev/sci1 and therefore in your config thats labelled as the Upper card reader. You have the blockua set to NO for this reader. Change this to Yes and see how you go.

Guys, I need to confirm this for my NewCS / CCcam Config Creator. Is the slot in the 500 / 600 /dev/sci1 ?

For safety sake, I would recommend making the settings the same for the upper and lower reader anyway, as you say as there is only one reader in a dm500, he's not going to be using another card in the other slot as it doesn't exist

Hid my 500 in the bedroom and let him install the HD box and move the old Sky+ box into the other room and use a new multiroom subscription.

I've got newcs and cccam working (finally) but looks like the multiroom card hasan't got the HD entitlements. I thought this might be the case - just wondered what other people are doing. Are they basically binning their HD boxes and using the card with HD entitlements in DM's or is there any way to get the entitlements turned on for the multiroom (really can't think what I'd say to the Sky call center - I've just bought a second hand HD receiver can you turn the HD on please? Think I'd get pretty short shrift with that!)

from my telephone call iam getting the hd on 2 boxes for an extra tenner and then buy the two hd boxes for 50 pound each
