Sorry to hear that Mick..
Why not mod your dongle and move it indoors ...or buy a mk2 (bias Tee ready) ..
Then you could ghost power an lna up the mast like Myself and Llew do ...
No more battery or ethernet worries...

..Of course you will have to run a long coax ...but I assume you are not more than say 30 mtrs from the mast to base station..?
Though the mast in that photo looks very isolated...

The Mast is 50m into a field and that bl0ck base has mains cable to it. I have power over Ethernet up the mast to power Pi and the data is fed back to the shack over the mains cable. Dongle is a Flightaware version Mk2 with built in lna and a separate 1090 filter . The mast was originally 60ft so I provided a battery back up to keep Pi going in case of mains outage to try and save having to lower the mast unless it was really necessary But ..............., Along came one of our Atlantic storms and what you see now is 45ft of what I could salvage from the wreckage . lol

A bit further away than I pictured ...but Perhaps still doable with coax ....
Might need 2 lnas tho'
;)

..course ...you could still use the pi and ethernet over mains ...with a modded RTL dongle.
I can't see why the Pi has to be up the mast ..?
antenna up the mast ...ghost powered LNA up the mast ...coax from lna to modded dongle ..and pi ..
Both of which could be at ground level in that concrete bunker ..
??

Might get my multi bias tee ordered from the USA later today ...but had to do some chasing ..
This has happened to me and others before ...
Parcels ordered from the USA make it over here to the UK ..without issue ..then vanish into the black hole that is the unbundled UK postal service ..
My parcel changed hands once in the UK about 4 times to various couriers ...the last 2 being 13ten and finally Yodel ...
Alarm bells already ringing ...I managed to contact the Yodel office in Middlesborough ...about mid day ...but not before going through the automated service ...which asked for a tracking number ..
I had at least 3 written down ...not one of which was recognised by the system ...so waited till a human being responded ..
She searched for all 3 ..and drew a blank..
Finally finding it by name address and postcode..
Apparentlythe wrong label has been attached to the parcel ..
BUT ...there was an attempt at delivery at 11:30 this morning but my shop was shut ..
The large notice on the door explaining that parcels can be delivered and signed for at my home address 3 doors away ...was ignored if read at all ...
The phone number over the shop was never rung ..but had they done so ..my dad would have opened the door ...
No calling card left...
Anyway ...to shorten this logistics story ...
Head office of Yodel gave me the correct delivery code ..and the phone number of the courier which I rang ...since they were still in the area ...and I was promised a return visit later today ..
So might actually get my parcel.
IF I had not gone in pursuit ...Either it would have been returned to the USA ...or vanished forever as has happened previously..
I let you know when I get it ...fingers crossed..
;)

Ok ..just signed for it ...
Will open her up later and fit a suitable socket for connecting to a 24v DC regulated psu ...
4 outputs cap coupled /isolated ...which will feed the RTL dongles
4 outputs to connect to C band LNBs fixed 20 or 14 volt (2 of each ) ...so will have to fit the polarisation plates accordingly ...
Nicely built unit ...
All die cast and solid with F connectors at all input/ouputs ...including the 24v supply in ..

A quick pic to show the internal layout ..
It uses LM317 adjustable voltage regulators to get suitable voltages for injection ...which is done through an inductor ..per channel of which there are 4 ..
There is also 22khz signal generation ...DSCF0007.JPG (NE555) chip ..but this is of no consequence regarding intended use...

All very oldschool. You could do well to file off some of the PCB material and bend those springs to make her fly a bit better

Ok ...
today was a nice day weatherwise ...so humped the Maxx up ladders to fit it at height ...but not much to aim for in Ku ...and will no doubt have issues with Cband ...
Add to the mix the fact that the lnb arm is homebrew ...so can't rely on that too much ...but after much fffing around got ...err something weak in Cband but no idea where I am atm ..
What I have found looks like data transponders ...and am not even certain of polarity ..
So question is ..
where am I ?
Nothing connected in my system atm so can't do double checks ..
Can anyone tell me what where I'm pointing in the region 50 to 55 W ..-ish
based on the crazyscan screen grabs ...

Dont want to move the Maxx until I get some idea where I am ...
It took 2 hours to get this much..

... would appear to be according to analyser --- I805 @ 55 West Tp18, Vertical signals - using 3885 & 4177 as reference VS which both tally with your Crazyscan grab.

Close enough then John ..
Thanks for that ...
Intended target being 54W ..

There is of course a depolarising plate in the feed ...which would explain wht no differences noted between Vertical and Horizontal scans here ..
Now I know where I am ...I'll hook up an RTL dongle and try for 54W data..

cheers buddy ..

first data on MAX.jpg Yep ..that works ...
Got my first plane on PP ...
So receiving data though NOT at the same frequency as the C1PLL on the TD110 ...
but this is a new C1PLL ...and they DO vary quite a bit sadly..

..Due to low angle of this bird ..and the weather here in Manchester ..
I have drilled 2mm holes in all rings of the offset feed ...and the very bottom of the LNB ...
all at the lowest points ....to allow drainage ..

To clear the air of a question asked a couple of weeks ago, there was a 1.5 GHz (1545MHz ?) signal that nobody could establish the origin of .

I can confirm that some speed camera detectors installed in vehicles (either for GPS location or for the detection of camera itself) are tuned to this frequency.

I will try to get a bit more info later tonight, but it would seem to point at the reason behind the localised random nature of these signals.

Regards

Damn this is frustrating ...
Made 2 directories ...each containg SDR# and a copy of Jaero .. the directories named (Helical) and (54W) ..I am going to add a third directory (15W)
I have 3 Virtual Audio Cables ..
So set SDR in directory (Helical) to VAC 1 ...and the correct frequency
..and yes it remembers these settings when closed and re-opened
Set SDR in Directory (54W) tp VAC2 and its correct frequency ..
It too remembers these settings ..

Now ..here is where the problem starts ..
Set Jaero in directory Helical to VAC1 and Jaero in Directory 54W to VAC2 ...
But this also changes Jaero in Helical to VAC2 ..
In other words ...only the last change is stored and affects ALL versions of Jaero regardless of where they are in the PC ..
Presumably you cannot have multiple independent versions of Jaero set to different virtual audio cables ??
Thus they can't store settings ..and WILL conflict as the audio/data combines and interferes ..???
Anyone have a solution ?

Presumably the settings not stored in directory as a settings file ....but more likely stored in the registry ...so universal to all versions ?

Just got a reply from Jonti .....
>>>
Hi Evan,

Yes multiple instances are a problem because I used the registry. Currently the only way around it is treating each instance as if it has no persistence. This means as each instance is started the setting are adjusted and the settings dialog never opened again. It works but is a hassle.

When I first started writing I never imaged that people would run more than one instance which is why the problem.

I could change from using the registry to files in the program directory but that is discouraged and in the past when doing this with windows 7 needed changing the directory permissions. Maybe a solution would be looking from where the program was run from and changing the settings location based on that. That would mean different directories would have different settings. I'll do a little programming and implement that to see if that is a viable solution. It shouldn't take me to long, I'll have a look over the weekend and see what I can do.

Cheers,
Jonti

..........
he's looking into it ...
