Pontop Pike from the north and Emley Moor from the south cover a large part of the Bilsdale service area. Re-aligning rooftop aerials on tens of thousands of homes would be required, but there's no sign of anyone wanting to take responsibility for such a mission.

Well, I would, but there's a supply chain issue with Emus.

So, if I understand, the transmitter infrastructure of the UK belongs to....a Canadian pension fund???
any idea when they sell the land and scrap to anyone willing?

Supposedly it was sold to fund the transition to digital broadcasting.

Dont be surprised - much of the UK power, transport & other infrastructure has been flogged off (often cheaply) to foreign companies over the years.

several French companies were bought up this way,and all disappeared;
1)they make workers redundant and fire them
2) they sell off the premises with a premium ,as most companies are not too far from Paris,so any piece of land is worth something...pitiful
a factory making MASKS was sold and destroyed this way just 5 years ago!!Then came Covid...
citizens should exert more control on this, methinks
at least the important things are not for sale !

It should be possible to park a few outside broadcast vans along with individual ground masts just outside the grounds, to put out a single mux each.

The topography means you either need a very tall mast, or several smaller ones located in areas so that existing aerials do not need to be adjusted.

The Arncliffe Wood temporary mast looks like it is mounted on a trailer. Reception reports from its suggested coverage area are variable, though I believe the UHF channels that are being used don't suit the pre-DSO group A aerials many houses have installed.

Was nosying around Google maps and was curious what it's sat dishes at Bilsdale were pointing at

1x 24.5w for BBC A & B Muxes
3x 28.2e... Why? I know right now theres a backup of the D3+4 mux but that came online after the fire, does some sort of backup system exist where it would take the Freesat channels and retransmit?

1x seems to be 4.9e? I seem to recall DAB being on this sat but not sure?

DAB is distributed on the Freesat home transponder on Astra 2E 28.5°E 11426 H 27500. It was originally on 4.9°E, may still be there but I haven't checked recently.

They’re on 9°E rather than 4.9°E now, but I think 28.2°E is the main feed for them now (the BBC only being on there).

I did mention one mast/one mux per van. Even if it is just a couple of transponders the local viewers will have some channels to keep them occupied.

Licence refunds to be offered to worst affected:

However eligibility appears to be very narrow - "The refunds will be offered to people who have been unable to receive TV coverage for more than a month, and who are unable to view BBC programming via BBC iPlayer and on cable and satellite platforms", "Addresses will be cross-referenced with postcodes impacted by the coverage outage".

Sounds like it rules out anyone with an internet connection, maybe even a smartphone. Can also foresee arguments over the affected postcodes - reception reports from Eston Nab & Arncliffe Wood temporary transmitters suggest coverage is patchy.

Arncliffe Wood is transmitting three more multiplexes:

CH29 SDN
CH31 Arqiva A
CH37 Arqiva B

Alongside the existing
CH40 BBC A
CH43 DS3&4
CH46 BBC B

In theory the new multiplexes should better suit group A aerials... on my rooftop one CH29 comes and goes every few seconds & doesn't scan in, CH31 is stable with a '42% fair' signal, nothing at all from CH37.
