Good Night Folks, I am now going to bed and I will post a Splatter pic tomorrow morning (provided we don't get a power cut, courtesy of "whoever")!:-bighappy

Glad it's building up :-) we got there in the end.

I will talk you through the flags etc after you have shown as a Splat :-)

Many thanks - you did all the work and the diagram is still building up, and I will post a pic in a bit!:)

Whoever would have thought that putting your Post Code into the box which appears to ask for it would cause the s/w to lose that sort of function - no wonder that many people appear to have tried and failed to get it working up to now! :(

I think you should report this to the VRS team who developed the s/w so they can fix the problem - and in the meantime, if necessary, tell other users what not to do if they want splatter diagrams.

Splatter , Splatter!
- The Range Circles are at 25nm intervals

Still need to fiddle with the settings to get the multiple colours version.

Nice to hear that.

Here is latest version
upload_2016-12-20_14-55-11.png

Probably could get more range if I could raise the antenna sufficiently (our altitude is only 35m amsl and there are lots of surrounding houses which are higher than the antenna on an 8ft pole in the rear garden), but that means putting it on the front of the House - which would not be easy as the eves have a wide overhang and that means a large T&K bracket. Might build another, and longer, co-linear after Xmas and try to mount that on such a bracket, but I have a lot of things to do in the meantime!

I have got the Flags files (I think you sent them before) but am having a little trouble getting VRS to recognise which folder to look in and to also look at the sub-folders

Here is the current Tools/Options setup:

May have to restart VRS to make that happen, but will wait a few more hours until the Splatter finally "stabilises" (and after I have finished some more house cleaning tasks!).

When you get a chance can you please post us a Splat with all the altitudes selected, as the 360radar group would love to see it as well.

Chris

I think that already have those files and have unzipped them to my D: drive as that is where the SDR files are located (NOTHING goes on my C: drive unless it absolutely won't work anywhere else because that's the one that can get "damaged" when anything serious happens - like attempted Win upgrades and so on!). Think the problem is now that of getting the file paths in VRS to the E: drive to work (did try some to folders on the C: drive but that was no better).

Will try to do that tonight - surprised the 360radar group would be interested in my amateurish early attempts at Splatter diagrams:rolleyes:.

Use any drive you want to store them on, and then in vrs point to the relevant folder.

Re start vrs and you should have the flags etc.

The Splat is saved in a file in the program.

Yes the group always love to see a Splat from a fellow member.

Will do a VRS restart in a few hours

Did not know that Splats are saved in files - so where would I find those?

Not on FB (still have considerable security reservations about it) or looked for them elsewhere, so never seen anything about 360radar.

Now back to some more cleaning!:(

I meant the data to display the Splat, is saved in vrs. If you want to view them you still use the browser.

So I assume that you mean on the VRS Server and not my local m/c. I guess that means I have to set up an account on the VRS website, which I have not yet done, and that only Splats done thereafter would be stored for viewing - am I guessing correctly?

(Actually I seem to remember that I may have tried to do that, but never got an access p/w - but that could have been another site, not sure.).

No on the pc running vrs you can switch on the Splat for all altitudes and switch them off.

Vrs stores the data.

We view the data via the vrs browser. Like you do to view the aircraft.

Looking GOOD! My initial range was about 3 aircraft & 40 miles which I was thrilled to bits with :D

Now the jaggies are working you can stop & start the vrs programme at will - they will save & reappear when you open it up again.

You can manually reset them or a computer lock up will occasionally wipe them - Ive had both reset the range jaggies.

No need to make an account on the vrs website, it'll work fine without it.

Thanks - given our location and altitude, and the experience before fitting, the addition of the cheap (£6) inline amp and DC injector (£18 + nearly the same for the case and components for the DC input EMI crap-removal filter = many times more than the amp itself, but probably worth it) virtually doubled (or more) the range - worth a shot for anyone else wanting more range. Will post info on the filter if anyone is interested.

Also for the info that followed about how VRS works.

Now we just need to get your flags working :)

It may sound like a daft question but you are unzipping the bmp files & copying all several hundred of them into the destination folder, & not just copying the zips in there?

The other thing that might possibly break them is that leading "-" in the path.

I's being usin they computer thingies fur decades past - and I think's I knows what they "zip" files be, and what tha has tae doe wi 'em:-lol

That's possible - will check - but I did use the VRS browse function to identify what and where the files are in order to get them into the relevant boxes.

I was quite sure you had done it right - but best to start from first principles :)
