I was quite sure you had done it right - but best to start from first principles :)

Also working in a school I learn never to make assumptionsabout whats wrong - Ive been bitten that way too many times!

I know the feeling, having prepared and given done dozens of training courses to a whole range of people, and I, too, generally started from I could then (retired nearly 2 yrs ago:)) ascertain to be my "audiences' " lowest common denominators.

Today's final Splatter - over 75 nm from here - I think I really need to improve on that!

Maybe I need to put the house on stilts - and put the antenna on top of that! :)

When you get a chance can you please post us a Splat with all the altitudes selected, as the 360radar group would love to see it as well.

Up to now, the plots were "all altitudes" which meant that they were in Red - as selected here
upload_2016-12-20_20-56-41.png

But now I have changed the Receiver Range selection as follows by "ticking" all the height bands ( did not think I could do that) and I get
upload_2016-12-20_20-59-22.png
So you have to do all the things discussed above and then tick all the height bands to get the range/height info.
NB: I have set "All altitudes" here to be "clear" (i.e. no colour)

That's a pretty good Splat:-) you will find that it builds up over time.

The other thing that might possibly break them is that leading "-" in the path.

I don't think there are quotation marks ("..") in the paths because this is what is there now:
upload_2016-12-20_21-20-19.png
What you see before the folder path names is a dash (" - ") which means that the folders with names preceded by that appear at the tops of the folder lists on the relevant drives - this is how I make sure that the most important folders on a drive appear at the top of the list for that drive.

OTOH, when I closed and restarted dump 1090, mlat_client & VRS, I still don't see Flages - and where should I see them when they do appear because they are not there now (as below)?

If the flags are not showing, then the links in the program won't show the flags.

Have you looked in the folders to check there is bmp files?

This is what the folder structure looks like - some of the sub-folders do have .bmp files as here

But some don't as here:

Many Thx - will have another go tomorrow as it has been a long, hard day (at my age - "deep cleaned" the bathroom, toilet, landing, stairs, lobby and so on!)

Think I have got the Flags working
upload_2016-12-21_16-14-5.png
Took a very long time to populate the Flags column, but that could be because I am running VRS on a Celeron dual core m/c!!!!

BTW: the altitude colours are shown in post #143.

Seems that the .bmp files need to be no lower in the folder structures than the 2nd level down from the Root of the Drive in question, and I think that this is true for most of the other "flight info" files - that means you would need to drop the contents of a number of the subfolders into a single one if you want , say, both civilian and military .bmp files to be available to display.

I think that last Splat is about as far as it is going to develop with the current antenna/antenna location & height/amp/cable/SDR module setup because it has hardly changed since last night, apart from several more plots showing up in the middle of the English Channel at around 90nm from here.

Excellent - good progress made whilst Ive been moving computers at work :D

Nice to see another fully populated VRS

If uou can get the antenna up even another foot it'll make a difference as every inch counts at ground level.

@jeallen01 i see different routes used on some days more than others.

So you will see some more plots, Saturday nights for example is quite quiet overhead.

Might be able to get it up another 6-8ft after Xmas but doubt I will have time before that.

I had already noticed that - and it will be probably be quieter still over this Xmas weekend, especially w.r.t. BA because of the cabin crew strike (if that happens).

General question: I think the time has come to reset the VRS plot since it has virtually stabilised, so what's the best way to do that?
