Hello everybody, first post here:cool:

I used to have a 1M motorised system around 10 years ago, which I sold to a friend when I moved house. I haven't bothered setting a new one up at my new house.

Well, I am looking at getting back into the sat game, mainly for 16east & 19.2.

I picked up a Triax TDA64 for very little money off gumtree, fitted with a Inverto Black Ultra LNB.

I know i'll get 19.2 off it but 16e I am not so sure. Looking at the Sat footprints, it should come in no bother but the reality seems to differ. I've looked at various forums and a lot seem to say it is a lot weaker than the footprints make out (I am in the West Mids).

Is this the case? Am I wasting my time with a 65cm?

It'll be too small for feeds on 16°E but you may be able to receive the regular broadcast channels.

Yeah, it's just normal channels I am interested in.

I have seen online a guy in Manchester say he has had if on a zone 2 minidish.

I am expecting pretty bad rain fade. Is 11262H still the best TP to go for when aligning to 16e?

I currently have a Sky Zone 2 dish aimed at 16E presently here in Co. Tyrone - on a few channels it can be touch & go in heavy-ish rain but is otherwise grand for the main broadcast channels on the Europe A & B beams.

IIRC the transponder for the best SNR was 11637V - it carries the Croatian & Slovene PSB channels, but I'll check later to see if that's changed.

That fills me with confidence!

I think the zone 2's are 80cm wide though aren't they?

It's EU B beam I think the bulk of the channels I am after.

Again from memory Zone 2 Mk4 dishes are 56cm high and 76cm wide. Always best to use a "proper" LNB for the dish too. In my experience the Zinwell ones with a fairly small LNB cap are not much better than banging on a universal LNB with an adaptor - the bigger cap ones are better (usually at least 1db better SNR), but these types of LNBs are getting harder to find these days.

The Zone 2 dish I have trained on 16E in my back garden is a Mk3 model bought nearly 15 years ago with its supplied MTi single output LNB. Still works well.

I've noticed this too, old large cap WNC singles that came with my mk2 dishes + an old Zinwell quad (large cap) all out perform newer Sky LNBs on Sky dishes pointed at 28.2°E.

What is your signal strength and quality like on the Zone 2?

Weather in the Midlands is pretty grim at the moment, my meter should be arriving today so if I can get a lock on in this weather i'll be pretty happy.

The satellite is on the weak side even with 98cm in Scotland. 12568V has 6.7dB but without breakup unless the weather is awful.

Is there a reason why the sat is weaker than what the footprint predicts for the UK?

On a small dish I think the signal from 13e and 19e overpowers it. I tried on my 35cm camping dish in the south, and I went from 13 to 19e with no break in signal in between.

16e is weak but stable enough for video & audio in clear weather on triax 64cm with black ultra lnb.

Well, I have been out having a play tonight in between the stinking weather and this one is going to be tough.

I set the elevation up on the dish, skewed the LNB and then went looking for 19.2e first which came in easily.

I then carried on moving the dish round and there is definitely something there on 11262H / 30000. Strength is 50% Quality 34% but no lock on.

The sky is pretty heavy, it is raining hard now so I have called it a night.

Weather forecast looks clearer for tomorrow.

I'll see what I can get with a zone 2 tomorrow if the weather cooperates.

Ahh really! I'm not far from Wolverhampton.

If I remember rightly, I used to get 85% quality on my 1M Orbital on the Digitalb package.

I wasn't expecting much on this little Triax but I was expecting something.
