Hi .... because its too hot here to do anything else today ... i rolled out the 1.8 c.m. and set it up just outside my garage ..... just to have a play at 40.5 W C band .... currently using BSC 421 l.n.b. at center focus ... with home made plate .. its struggling with ESPN transponder today ? signal locked but floating above and below 9.5 db ... VE plus floating between 10.3 and 10.9 ... going to experiment with different l.n.b,s and positioning,s and scalar and plate variations on and off over the next few days .......
Legend . Thanks mate

Signal levels can vary so much over a period of time with C Band.. Been there, and had the T shirt.

If I recall correctly, some of the historic discussions from a few years ago indicated that the BSC LNBF's were among the best available at the time.
I think they needed to be imported from the USA and might no longer be in production?

+1.
Agreed 100%, I have noticed some quite large signal level variations per frequency over time on C-Band.

Certainly they have given the best results for me on the Channel Master offset dishes ....
I got mine originally from the USA many years ago ... and you are correct they are no longer in production .. i managed to track one down a few years back .. (to have as a spare) and imported that one from South Korea.

ESPN weak up here in the north today on 1.8 ..... 9.2 - 9.3 db with occasional loss of lock at 9.1 db .... this past hour.
A long way from the 10.0 - 10.1 that i could receive back in the spring of this year .....

I think that seasonal atmospheric conditions may have a bearing on things? Perhaps the colder winter weather with clear skies later in the evening is better.

From checking 38.0 East (PakSat) lately I have noticed that some frequencies have quite a drop off in the hottest part of the day and return to stronger levels later in the evening.
There is certainly variation of signal levels during the day. It could be the cheapo Titanium LNBF is performing poorer in the heat and better when cooler.

'ere, cop for this two bob chart I rustled up for 38.0 East (PakSat).
It shows the variation in signal level over the course of a day for the frequency of 4174V, measured at 7 intervals.

The midday/afternoon reduction in signal level is represented by S3. S4 and S5.
The early morning and later in the evening are represented by S1 and S7.

Quite a few of the other C-Band frequencies from 38.0 East and other satellites exhibit similar variations.

Impressed with the graph very interesting

13.15, now 30.7C here according to my Tempest, ESPN at 9.5 / 9.2 dB thereabouts.

I guess classical theory would suggest higher temperature would degrade performance of any LNB ?

TBS card with EBS Pro v18 software will lock frequencies below a lock and show you the dB level. It allows you to see what is there that you aint locking.
The Dr HD F15 receiver does the same thing, gives the user visibilty of dB levels for below lock signals.
