FYI
Most interesting read.
Operating a 3.4 metre prime focus mesh dish(I think it is a Ku band dish from the USA but I got it cheap off the back of a truck) with a cheap LNB I normally get all Astra UK channels up to 10.30 pm(and most of them up to at least midnight) in Caprese Michelangelo Latitude = 43.6337, Longitude = 11.9986 or about 50 Km south east of Florence . The weakest transponder is 10.709 H which is ITV3 and 4. I noticed that some of the encrypted Sky signals are a bit stronger than the FTA ones I am using (on a GBP 120 Clarktech german box) so have got an old Sky Pace box with a Sky freesat card, but not got round to taking the disceq (Hotbird 13 on a different parabola) out of the circuit yet. I have 50 metres of low quality very thin coax between the parabola and the disceq and another 10 metres from the disceq so guess I am losing a bit of signal along the way, and the trees in front of the dish don't help. So reading all your messages I feel quite pleased to have go this far on my own!

The reception is so sensitive that leaning briefly on the base of the parabola alters the reception perceptibly and recent high winds caused some problems. ( Just to show how old I am, I added a Belkin FM transmitter (GBP 6) to the earphone socket of the telly and now can listen to the radio all night like I used to 30 years ago- when I could also listen to the radio all night, but then in those days the BBC world service was worth listening to and on short wave, I don't think either is true. By the way Talksport is available on a decent medium wave radio from 8 pm to morning. Unfortunately most modern radios don't have aerial sockets any more so can't get anything else direct.
Trouble with old age, I ramble.

Pretty much useless in this situation as you need to get every 1/10 decibel out of the system

Hi Incold

Its good to hear of someone else in this area who also gets BBC1 etc. As far as I can see, I am about 55Km further south of you and a little to the west so you should have things a little easier. Mind you in fringe receptions area like this there can be peaks and troughs just a few 10's of Km apart. If you want to get a little better you should try changing the LNB for the Invacom C120 Quad as this seems to be the one recomended by all the pundits.

My brother-in-law works for a German engineering company and he is making me a larger "cyprus" style scaler ring to fit on the feed horn so I hope this will give me the odd 0.2-0.3 dB of extra noise margin. Will post again if it works.

Ciao for now

I don't know of any radome that loses more than 0.4dB at Ku band, and many perform well under 0.3dB. In the o/ps case it would serve to prevent distortion under wind, and the eventual damage last year. To compensate this loss, extender panels could be fabricated to fit onto the 3.7, making it similar spec to the 4.5m.

@PJG
Could you post plans of "cyprus" skaler ring DIY kit?
I might try it as well to compare results.

Clarke Tech 2100+ 3.4 metre dish

Small update from Caprese Michelangelo. A very heavy hailstorm (golf ball size for about 1 hour, 1 metre depth) changed the shape of my mesh dish last winter, and I had an interesting time ironing it out. It works about as well as it did before now. The LNB I am using is actually Invacom but a dual feed, so I started using two boxes on it. The original German Clarke-Tech 2100 plus, and on the other a Sky Pace 2600 donated from UK with a Sky Freesat card which I matched to it. The two boxes produce more or less the same results (but I can get a couple of extra channels on the Sky box, Five USA etc).

Invacom do not seem to believe that their quad LNB is significantly different to the dual (they look identical just two connectors missing from mine). What I want to know is if it is worth either adding some kind of flaps to extend the dish, or getting the local fabro to make up some thin solid sheets to replace the mesh, or getting one of those fancy adjustable feedhorns (I have the invacom integrated feedhorn) or what else, just to get improved reception in very heavy rain/late at night.
What would be the logical change to make first? Any advice appreciated, because a neighbour is about to copy my installation.

Hello. I want to buy a prodelin antenna (Model 1375 3.7 Meter Polar Mount Rx Only), but I want to know what is the standard guarantee for this antenna.
I saw on the website (gdsatcom.com) that the antenna has more options. What is the diference between this option:1375-990 and this one: 3.7M Polar Mount System 1375-991 3.7M Polar Mount System w/ SHC and what is the diference between this option:0800-3734 Ku SP (order w/system (inlcudes cover) and 0800-3735 Ku DP (order w/system (no cover) (I want to use as LNB an Invacom C 120 feedcorn).
When you bought the antenna, did you make a damage insurance for it?
Thank you.

Hi como1980,

I have got the 3.4 m. model (Prodelin Polar mount Rx Only) for 10 years. I purchased it directly from the USA. I was helped by a friend (engineer) to mount the dish which was not easy at all. I only modified the feed so that it be compatible with Invacom C120. You do not need the cover. DSCN2233.JPG. I live in Potenza
(Basilicata, Italy) for 33 years but I am Hungarian origin. I will be spending a lot of time in Hungary (Szeged) in this
semester. So you can contact me by e-mail and meet me if you are interested.

If you are in Kenya why is your IP address in Califonia? (Just interested as thats a common spammer trick)

Anyway you are wasting your time - no chance whatsoever of 28E in Kenya.

Congratulations on your success in getting Astra 2D and thank you for your excellent posts.
I'm south of Rome where Astra 2D remains a no-go area! So my wife and I are really jealous....!! :)
Well done m8,
regards
D.

Absolutely good effort. But is he receiving 2D, or 2F and 1N? I thought 2D was dead?
Carole.

It's not your fault, the site throws up ancient threads to the top when somebody posts on them, everybody has missed the start date at some point if it is on an earlier page.

Prodelin 3.7m dish ensures a 24/7 reception of all Astra2F channels in Central Italy. In acceptable weather conditions (no heavy rain) the recepetion is still 24/7 in Basilicata (Potenza), Southern Italy

Coviello are you aware of anybody further South of you, for instance Calabria or Sicilia with a similar or even bigger sized dish ? Would be interesting to know how the situation looks like there.
