Are you sure the dish needs to be that high? From the pictures, it looks like it can be dropped at least half a metre without hitting the roof.

You will have a limited arc where it is, that pole looks like a cheap tv Arial pole ? I would use nothing else but an ally scaffold pole, if your not going to put it on the chimney don't you have options on the front of your house ?. you will kill someone with it like that at least change the pole and space the brackets better if you leave it there,

I thought the pole was the usual 50mm but on second look, I think Martin is right (feel free to correct, though).

I would take a trip down to your local scaffold merchant and get a nice pole from them for a fiver.

Hi Guys
I must say I was disappointed with the pole myself it is a 42mm Scaffold pole OR at least it should have been and
no Im not sure the dish needs to be that high first time doing this so its all a learning curve :) I could drop it at least 2ft I would say also front of house is a no go even thought it would be so much better all round

Scaffold poles are galvanised, 50mm diameter and thick walls. This isn't a proper scaffold pole (and shouldn't have been advertised as such if it was).

Wirral, NW UK and Vaucluse, France.
Scaffold poles can be either galvanised steel or, much rarer, aluminium. They are all thick wall though.

The bigger the better. The pole between the two brackets should ideally be at least as long as the bit above the top one. I use K-T-K or K-K arrangement if I can.

Thanks for reply . I was going to use 2 K Brackets with say 3ft poll dish in center dish would be relatively sheltered

It depends, by the sound of what your saying your not going above the gutter, if your dish is was 1.2 you would need something slightly longer than 600mm, measure the dish half it then add a little bit lol.

Hi, ive just looked at the DP, to get the best from the front of your house, get 24 inch and take the dish above the gutter making sure is high enough to clear the slates when you slewed round E, also you will need to open the limits in motor if you go with this idea. you might get away with 18inch you will have to measure to make sure, but 18inch is no good if your putting it on the wall you will need 24.

At my old house I went above the gutter with a 1mtr, I used a 20ft ally scaffold tube, with 4 K 18inch brackets (you might need bigger ones) the dish was about 3ft above the gutter to miss the tiles, in strong winds it did move a little, but my 1.2 does and that's on a beast of a pole and bracket.
